My guinea pig, Pippy has been limping for quite a bit now. I initially thought it was a lack of vitamin C, so I bought vitamin C drops from online and incorporated it into his diet as well as feeding him vitamin C rich veggies and fruit as treats, but he continues to limp. I’m starting to think that it’s bumblefoot, but I’m really not sure! I’m still feeding him vitamin C rich foods and I’ve been making the bedding in his cage a lot thicker (I use wood shavings). Any opinions on what it is and what I can do?

That doesn’t look like bumble foot, but then we can’t diagnose over the Internet. It’s better you take him to a vet to be checked out. Also, don’t increase the fruits you’re giving him. Just stick to the usual vitamin c rich veg (coriander and bell pepper). Too much fruit is not good - high in sugar and/or acidic.

Thanks! I’ve kept the treats steady, and have been giving him slices of bell peppers every day. Hopefully he stops limping soon, Ill try to see a vet soon but it’s been very busy lately as the holidays are here.

Additional Info : He eats just as much as he always has and is always wheeking! His poops are normal and he seems to act perfectly fine other than his limp. He runs around and lets me pet him whenever I walk by, so I’m not sure what it could be.

Ok good he’s still his usual self. It may be he injured himself somehow. Book him in for an appointment when you can get one after Christmas. It’s not urgent right now. Hopefully it’s just a sprain.

If it was a sprain, what would the procedure be (if you know)? Just some rest or would the vet prescribe medicine?

He may be prescribed metacam for pain relief. See when you can get an appointment. But if he seems he’s going downhill - not eating - then that’s an emergency.

I agree with @Siikibam - a vet does need to do a hands on exam to see if it is arthritis, injury, sprain etc.

It doesn't look like there is anything wrong with the foot but it's impossible to say from the photo alone. I would pop to the vet and get it checked out, if it's a sprain he might need to be restricted in space and given pain relief to help healing

It could likely be a sprain as he’s always running around the cage, I’ll be getting him an appointment with the vet as soon as possible!
