Living In A Hard Water Area

i live in a very hard water area. I've been reading about issues guineas have with stones. Should I filter their water? Although I could do without buying any more items for the guineas!

If you live in a hard water area, then yes, it is advisible to filter your water.

I live in a soft water area but still filter water for my guinea pigs

I filter my piggies' water because I live in a very hard water area, if you can minimise the risk then it's worth the expense. You can buy fairly cheap water jugs & filters in places like Wilkinsons/Wilkos now rather than brand name ones. It might also be an idea to save a bit of money towards any vet bills that might arise in the future, guinea pigs vet bills are not cheap unfortunately so it pays to be prepared

You can always give them lower calcium water you can get in bottles.

The big own brand bottles of water from Asda and Tesco are around 10mg calcium and cost about £1.50 each.

I have a bladder sludge pig so he needs even lower calcium water so I buy Deeside, which is 4mg. You can buy it online or in Waitrose in a fancy glass bottle. Yep, my pig drinks fancy glass bottle water. I think they're about £1.00 each.

You can always filter this water too if you want even less calcium.

I've seen a water filter jug with 12 months supply of cartridges on ebay for under £20.
