As stated in a previous thread, I recently adopted 2 male guinea pigs however one managed to escape as I opened their hutch and ran away into my neighbours garden. I searched for over an hour and left a warm box with hay and food hoping he'd return but it's been almost 5 days and I'm beginning to lose hope.
I have his brother but I'm worried he'll get lonely and I would hate for that to happen so I was wondering how long I should wait before adopting another and what age male I should adopt? My boy is only 23 weeks so I don't want him to feel threatened. I'm really worried about his behaviour. Nothing seems to have changed about him yet but I don't want to wait too long in case he gets too sad and lonely. They were my first guinea pigs and I'm very inexperienced so I'm not really sure how to go about introducing him to another nor how long I should wait before I do so. Any advice is welcome! Just want the best for him!

Try to see whether one of our recommended good standard and safe to use rescues that offer bonding at the rescue is within your reach. it is the safest place for a smooth start as you come home with a healthy/quarantined and properly sexed companion only if there has been acceptance and mutual liking.

I am very sorry about your guinea, you never know he may come back. I know how it feels cos I very nearly lost mine in a bush the other day, and got him back with a very stung arm! If I were you I'd get two girls. Ask a rescue about that- I think a boy and 2 girls are ok, but then I'm not an expert ( you may need to neuter him too)! With that combination he can have two friends, and if the other comes back, then they'll each have a friend. Hope you find him. Oh and also ask your local rescue and search the internet in case anyone has found him.
