Hello I am new to this site and I would like some information. A couple of days ago I had to have my rabbit put to sleep who shared a hutch with a guinea pig. My pig now looks so lonely. I have two other pigs that live in a hutch on top of the other hutch. I was wondering whether it would be possible to slowly introduce them and make them into a threesome. These piggies I have acquired from my daughter and I am no Piggy expert. I was told by my daughter that they will fight if I put them in together, but my single piggy is looking so sad. Would be grateful for any information you experienced piggy owners could give me.

are the piggies sows or boars? in general sows are easier to bond into a three some. it is also recommended that piggies and rabbits are never housed together :)

Guinea pigs should be housed with another guinea pig as they are herd animals, for some reasons why piggies and rabbits shouldnt be housed together http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=18894.0

sorry for your loss of your bunny 0:)

EDIT: welcome to the forum :)

welcome to the forum :) if the piggies are girls you stand a good chance of getting them to bond, if they are boys it might be best not to risk having the two who are already together falling out. if the lonely one is a boy would you be able to look for a rescue near you were you could take him and see if you can find him a friend? Good luck xxxxx

Thanks very much for your information. Yes they are all Boars, so by what you have told me, it is unlikely they could be put together. Perhaps as you say, we may have to find a rescue, so you think he may settle with a sow?

i wouldnt risk trying to bond all 3 boars as if it doesnt work it could upset the orignal pairing which could mean 3 lonely boars ::) how old is your lonely boar? some rescues will allow you to take him to pick a friend for himself, that way its more likely to work. sows and neutred boars do get along wel,l however i think its best trying him with other boars before getting him neutered :)

where abouts are you? there are alot of rescues on here which may be able to help, i know all rescues at the minute are full so you would be helping them out :)

Yep i agree with Kelly, best to try him with another boar before you get him neutered. you could try him with your two but keep a very close eye on them and the minute its looking nasty separate them and put them in a new space so they calm down, its up to you. I would take him along to a rescue to choose a friend, most boars will accept baby boars but then it could get nasty when the baby is older and wants to be boss. so it is best to find an adult who he gets on with O0 you'd think it would be easy wouldnt you lol! x

Thanks for all the information, I really didn`t think it would be so tricky, they look so docile and sweet, I just would not have imagined that they would turn nasty with each other. As I said earlier I sort of got lumbered when my daughter moved back in with me, now she has gone and I seemed to be left with the pigs. I was going to look after them until they sort of naturally came to and end, but have grown quite attached to them and hate to see this little feller looking so sad, or is that my imagination lol

I live in Chatham, Kent. I am trying to get into my photo hosting site, but having a bit of trouble at the moment. I have a vidoe of my pig and rabbit together.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

We are a friendly bunch and you will find LOADS of helpful and interesting stuff on here that covers every angle of guinea pig care.
Like you, I "inherited" a guinea pig but before long I was in love with that crazy wriggly furry little pig and now I will have guinea pigs for the rest of my life :smitten:

You have absolutely done the best thing by looking for advice and there are some very experienced piggy owners here to help you out.

I would agree with the others. You need to find a good local rescue and arrange to take him along to let him select his own friend.
Failing that he coud live with a sow but would need to be castrated by the vet.
There is no real harm in him living alone but he would need extra love and stimulation to prevent him getting bored.

I hope all of this is helpful to you :)

Just noticed the Kent Guinea pig rescue place that someone has posted on here, is just down the road from me.
