Lola and Daisy

Hello there.

I am new to this forum and i have a question for all you piglet lovers.

one of my piggies has got long wild hair and develops matts in it quite frequently, i normally cut them out but never do a very good job because she wont stay still and hates the sound of the scissors! annoying!

Just wondered if anyone has any tips on dealing with this, i do groom her but she is difficult and does not enjoy it!

many thanks x

hello again!
most of my piggies are short haired but i have two that have long skirts around there bum/lower back area,i brush mine a few times per week, maybe try a different brush, you can also wash them and condition there hair to make the knots more managable but its not a long term solution, the other option is to cut
these are my longer haired piggies

not the longest hair but both of mine sit quietly to be brushed so I'm not sure with a fidgety piggy
i know Sophiew has alot of laonghaired piggies so hopefully she can advise more x

You can take the dressing up bit a bit too far - I can't imagine a piggie being happy in something like that! (Besides, personally, I'd rather see the fur and know my pig is happy!)

With your skittish lot you have two choices: either brush them nearly daily, so you won't get any big, matted tangles or give them a radical haircut. If you keep your index and your middle finger between some preferably sharp scissors and the skin, you won't pull on the piggie's hair (which is why they probably hate the scissors) and are not in danger of cutting into them accidentally if they move unexpectedly.

You can get special shampoos and advice from here: http://www.gorgeousguineas.com

hey, thankyou for the advise on the long locks, i guess i will give her a trim and brush her more often. Apart from that they seem to be very happy little piggies. very vocal and cuddly.

RE. the little costumes, i understand how you feel however because they were used on tv (an episode of south park) i thought they cant be that bad for them. i wanted to get some so i can take a few pics and then obviously take them off straight away. My piggies arent that timid as you would expect and dont scare easily like most do so i think they would be okay. they love attention! x

Hi

I have a couple of long haired piggies.

One of them has hair which looks all knoted as she is crossed with a Texel, Alpaca, she hates her hair doing, but every so often she gets a trim, also have another long hair who isn't to bad to cut, she is a type of sheltie.

Jaye.

I have a white sheltie who gets grubby quite quickly. She hates being brushed but doesn't mind being washed. I trim off the any badly matted fur and wash her while gently teasing out the other tangles. While she is still damp I trim all the fur round her bum so it is neat. She does need to be dried with the hair dryer which she is used to and she looks so pretty afterwards.

I have hang on let me count...5 long haired pigs...I think! And use a spray of water on small knots and tease them out. If they can't be brushed I will cut them out. I try and keep the bum as clean as possible. My older girl Goldmoon loves to sit in her wee! rolleyes Although she is off to the vet this week as I am worried she ihas a small UTI.

I have two super long hari piggies,my male Pickle is a long haried teddy and my girlie clover is a silky. I trim pickles bottom once it gets long only because he hates being brushed and clover gets hers trimmed because it gets so long that she pees on it LOL. So I usually get my OH or someone to hold them and I just trim their bums so that its tidy and can't get peed on. Maybe try getting someone to help you if brushing doesn't work.

My Mom always has to help me brush or cut Pola's hair. If I tried to do it myself I'm sure Pola would dive off the couch :)) , she hates getting her haircut so much!

Hi I have a long haired piggy I always get my OH to hold him and I trim his bottom and back legs so he doesn't get too knotted down there.. rolleyes when he does i just have to cut them out.

he doesn't like to be brushed either and his hair grows all over the place.. I have givien in on trying to have him long and beautiful and trim him up for his pown good.. he prefers it in this warm weather too ..xoxo

I have just done my first hair cut on my very first longed haired piggy hisname is Jerry i have no idea what breed he is but he has a huge amount of hair and over the last couple of months his hair grown really long, he is a indoor piggy but with the warmer weather he is having time out in the run and i was really concern that he would over heat and i was also worried about matting. I have never cut GP hair before and he wasnt to bad about having this done but i am going to buy some new scissors for next time as i dont think mine are sharpe enough.
I just hope he likes he new look ? ? ? ?
Here is a pic of him if any one knows his breed please feel free to let me
