The day after we lost Ehab,Shereen has been in season. It has been eleven days now. This does seem really odd. If she has ovarian cancer I do not know what I will do as the vets have already said it is to high risk to spay her. Any ideas?

If she has ovarian cysts this may cause a hormonal imbalance. Is she rumbling and mounting?

I know she had lumps on the outside but has she been scanned for cysts before? Any side hairloss?

Big hugs to you x

No hair loss but she has five fatty lumps that the vet says are benign. She is rumbling non stop and trying to mount Amelia Jane.

But no inside scan, ultrasound or xray? I don't know how long the seasons can be sometimes?

Did they both live with Ehab? Maybe it has something to do with the piggie hierarchy. Hoping someone with some experience of this may be along shortly. Hope it quietens down soon. You really are having a tough time of it lately x

isn't there a hormone treatment they do now before considering a spay? maybe discuss with the vets? other than that, all i can think is either the hierarchy or the fact it's nearly spring maybe?

Some sows can suffer from hormonal periods which look like a prolonged season when their still rather small ovarian cysts are growing. Often that is triggered by a change in the hierarchy. Whether you want to treat with hormones or not is up to you, and how much it affects the group as a whole; you can try and just sit it out for a few weeks.
By the way, not all or even many ovarian cysts show the classic symptoms. Many older sows have pretty large cysts and no symptoms whatsoever.

I would consider a spay only as a last measure, as it is a major operation.

My Terk had a course of hormone injections and they have really helped her, she has mellowed considerably. I think having a docile companion in Ellie has helped though. She can **** be a madam and does taunt the others through the grids but she is not like she used to be which was really dominant. She has an ovarian tumour.

Maybe it is to do with the heirchy. I will see if it changes when I get a boar. Thank you for all the replies.

My Ffowlyn (another hormonal girl) went simply bonkers in the interim between Llewelyn and Hywel, but went back to normal as soon as another boar took over. I hope that things might calm down again if you can find a boar your girls could date.
