Hi, my sow brambles ages 2 has started with some rather loud gurgling sounds coming from her stomach. I cut out veggies for a few days but it still happened. Took her to the vets on Friday and they checked her over, said she wasn’t bloated no blockage or anything. And couldn’t hear any gas. Gave her a Injection of raditine (however you spell it) and some recovery food. She is still eating, pooping, weeing and still greets me for veggies. She isn’t eating pellets that I’ve seen. I’ve been massaging her stomach and can hear the little gas noises but not sure if she can actually pass the gas. She is eating plenty of hay. I’ve gave her some painkiller she happily took it. Just after some advice really. Am concerned about her. My other 2 sows she lives with are fine.

I’ve been feeding bell peppers and only a small amount

Hi, I think if you have seen the vet and they cannot detect any bloat or blockage, and she is eating plenty of hay and pooping normally, there isnt much you can do except be careful of overfeeding watery or gassy veg (like lettuce, or cabbage) and keep an eye on her. Please dont give pain killers on spec unless the vet has specifically prescribed them for this condition, gut problems if any exist need treatment to fix the issue rather than just treating any pain. If you arent happy with the vets advice, getting a second opinion from a vet more experienced with guinea pigs is always the best option, as online advice can never replace a hands on examination by a vet- plus prescription medication always works better than home remedies, which we don't advocate here!

Thankyou for your reply! I Won’t continue with the painkiller the vets just said she might be in some discomfort and I already had some from 3 weeks ago. She is eating less than usual but the vet seemed confident there wasn’t an issue just some gas. Just worry about my little fur babies!
