my louis has started making funny noises when he eats, not sure what it is, he had this before and we took him to the vets - checked his chest and everything, but couldn't find nothing wrong with him - what do you think it could be? hard to explain what it sounds like really :/

Oh love i'm sorry to hear this....
let's have a go with some noises, try to describe O0
Does he sound like an asthmatic piggie ? like real wheezy ?
or is he just a bit rattly and then ok, cause if that's the case i reckon this happens to our guy and i've panicked before but i reckon it's cause he gobbles down too fast ::)
Try to think of what the noise sounds like then try to describe this will help the girls on here that know more about these things O0
Good luck with little Louis all paws crossed and heaps of healing wheeks coming his way :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

doesn't sound really wheezing - sounds a bit rattly i suppose - I'll have another check tonight, sorry not much help really! thinking about it, he does it when he sometimes cleans himself, but when he does it when eating it stops then straight away...

Does it sound like teeth grinding? that may mean that teeth are getting a little long... so long as louis is eating then properly without dropping little bits then teeth are probably ok... ;)

Also pick up the piggy and hold its body to your ear and have a listen to its breathing and chest - see if it sounds normal... if it sounds raspy then i would take your piggy back to the vet and say that you are not convinced that there is nothing wrong... O0

It more than likely is nothing serious but piggies do hide their illnesses very well - i lost one of mine becuase i didn't identify there was a problem until it was too late... :'( but i try to be extra vigilant with mine now... :smitten:

Keep us updated! would be good to hear that things are definately ok! O0

The only thing I can think of is the grinding noise that the teeth are getting a little long. I've had this with couple of mine but once they munnch on a load of hay it goes ok. I've a couple who aren't big hay eaters supringsly, Sunshine is one of them he prefers veggies.

All piggies make a noise when they have a good wash!

Some piggies tend to make a noise when eating too - like a chomping snuffly noise - probably enjoyment and contentment!

If your piggy nose is a bit short or flatter then they can be a bit snuffly too buts it not anything to worry about! ?

it doesn't sound like grinding and he does eat all his dry food and veg and hay without any problems, greedy boy, but will have another listen tonight when i get home. When we took him this year, she did check all his teeth front and back and they seemed fine, she even showed me the back ones too! I'll have another listen tonight!

hoping louis is feeling better and you find the cause of the noise. i know when i hold zoe or jessie to my ear they make a sort of popping nose. sending hugs and cuddles to you and louis :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: girls send :-* :-* :-* please keep us updated. :smitten:

well last night Louis didn't make that noise at all! Charlie was doing it a bit when he was cleaning himself, so guessing it's just a noise they do when eating or cleaning themselves! thanks for your replies :-)

Does he sound like he needs oiling? Mine do, when they eat - that's the only way I can explain it, they sound like a creaky door that needs some WD40!

Two of mine have sounded weazie before while eating, and i really panicked, booked them into the vets, and then it stopped and were fine. Strange and it doesn't happen all the time.

Jeremy always grunts when he's eating - its just him! Also sometimes Tiger makes a kind of sloppy noise - we took him to the vets, and the only thing they thought it was was a bit of food stuck on the roof of his mouth.. has he done it again?
