PB&U
New Born Pup
On August 19th I made the difficult decision to put my boy Bambi to sleep. He was almost 6 years old, and he along with my two other boys, Ueli and Pinto, were a huge part of my life for the last 5.5 years.
In early June of this year, Bambi was found to have a heart murmur, which was later diagnosed as Dilated Cardiomyopathy, leading to CHF. He was on several heart drugs, along with pain meds and supplements, which improved his symptoms, and gave him another 2+ months of great quality life, filled with treats, playtime, and lots of love. Unfortunately, this health condition only progresses, and I decided to have him put to sleep after he started showing signs of discomfort/pain, and decreased appetite, with no improvement. I am so thankful for the years I got to spend with Bambi, and I wanted to share a bit about him, along with some photos.
I purchased Bambi from a pet store back in Fall of 2017, along with my two other pigs, Ueli and Pinto (I've since become aware of the many unwanted piggies needing homes, and would only consider adopting in the future). I chose Bambi because I loved his natural brown coloring, and the tan stripe running down his side. Little did I know what an incredible personality he had, and all the memories we would share together.
Bambi was a very manly piggy, both in size and personality. He weighed 1,350 grams, and he sure knew it! He'd love having rumble strutting contests with Pinto and Ueli (especially Ueli), and was always peeking his head above the edge of his home, keeping an eye on everyone! With people though he was a gentle giant. He absolutely LOVED to chew and play with his toys, even one that had a bell in it he would pick up to make it ring! He was so curious, and usually one step ahead of me. One of my favorite memories is during a trip relocating from Utah to Washington, half way through the 12 hour drive, I look in the passenger to seat to check on my 3 piggies, and Bambi is gone. I pull over to figure out where he went, but as soon as I look in the backseat, there's Bambi sitting on top of all my stuff, looking back at me with his big deer eyes! How'd he get up there?!
With Pinto passing in January, and Ueli in April, it was just me and Bambi for the last 5 months. I upgraded him to an even bigger c&c cage (2x5 grids) which he loved because he could have even more chew toys! In these last months, we grew even closer, spending lots of time with each other. One of our favorite activities was Bambi figuring out his puzzle board, in exchange for pea flakes! He was brilliant, figuring out some puzzles all by himself. You can teach an old dog new tricks!
Bambi will always be in our hearts. Having the opportunity to care for and know him, along with Pinto and Ueli, for these last 5.5 years has been an honor. They have brought so much joy and love into our family's hearts. Bambi, Pinto, and Ueli will be loved and remembered always
