Hi all. My little piggy Bubbles crossed the rainbow bridge today. He had a lot of stones in urethra, bladder and kidneys and the vet said there were just too many for her to deal with. I'm keen to try and avoid this happening with my two girls and welcome any advice on which veges would give them a good diet but be low in calcium? The vet told me to limit parsley and kale . Are there more veges I should avoid. Iv already changed nuggets to alfalfa free as vet recommended and I just want to make sure I'm doing all I can to try prevent this happening again. Thank you

Hello I am sorry that you have lost your piggy to bladder stones :(

I feed a low calcium diet which consists of bell pepper (all colours) cucumber, green bean. Coriander and little Gem lettuce. I also filter the drinking water which is recommend especially if you live in a hard water area.

Parsley, kale and spinach are all high in calcium so should only be fed sparingly.

thank you x. we lost our little stumpy a few years back (she is right side on my profile pic) who also had stones so I altered their diet then, but perhaps not enough it seems , now iv lost my little bubbles. I know some piggies can be prone but id hate to think I'm not doing all I can to prevent it with my 2 girls scooby and speedy, so once again thank you

I am sorry for your loss.

The biggest thing to help reduce calcium is to use the lowest calcium pellets and to stick to one tablespoon of pellets or less per day and filter drinking water. Those two items - pellets and unfiltered water - contribute a lot of calcium to the diet and even the lowest calcium pellets contain a lot of calcium if overfed. Nugget Comparison Chart

After that avoiding or strictly limiting, the high calcium veg as mentioned above
