Hi everyone my name is Lisa and I am a first time long haired guinea pig owner. My oldest girl who is about 5 months old, Mrs Piggy waffles, is your normal typical guinea pig. Last night while I was playing with her, I noticed a red lump near her woman parts. Please help me! I am scared while doing research in the internet. I am taking her to the vet on Tuesday . I'm really worried but her behavior hasn't changed. She is still spunky as usual.

I would guess possibly a cyst or abscesses? Or maybe a skin infection from sitting in her wee? The vet will be able to help you, if she's not acting any differently that's good. Does she weigh the same as usual & eating & pooping ok?

I would think maybe a cyst or abcess too, it is difficult to tell from the photo. It's good that you are taking her to the vet, please don't panic in the meantime, researching things online can make our minds go into overdrive.

In the meantime, please could you update your location so that we can advise you better.

Please always have any lump checked out by vet. We cannot diagnose them safely just from a picture without handling the piggy in question.

The good news is that the majority of lumps turn out to be harmless and that stronger antibiotics have improved the recovery rate a lot as well. the sooner you have her seen the better.

Could you please add your country, state or (for the UK) your county/city, so we can make sure that any recommendations we can give re. aftercare/support at home take your location and vet access into account. Click on your username on the top bar, then go to personal details and scroll down to location. Thanks!

Thanks everyone for your kind responses I am from queens, New York and her appointment is at 11:40. When I checked her lump this morning, it looked a little bit crusty and it's still the same size. Her poops and pee are normal, plus like what I said she is still her fiesty self nothing changed behavior wise. When I touch the lump, it doesn't phase her. Tomorrow at 11:40 is her appointment and the vet I found specializes in small animals .

Best of luck!

If you click on your username on the top bar, and then add your location to your personal details, it will always appear with your picture in every post, so we can adapt any advice to brands/medications etc. available in the US without having to ask you or giving you advice that applies to the United Kingdon instead. ;)

Quick update everyone from the vet,

I Took Mrs Piggy Waffles to the vet today and found out her lump is a bacterial infection. She is separated from her sister at the moment and she is responding well to the medications/antibiotic and warm compress. I will find out in the next couple of days the results of the lab test.
