hi all
Have checked in my book and it sounds like she has something called "broken back" but would like your opinions.

I noticed when grooming her this morning that on the centre of her back is a pea size lump with a head on it like a big spot. The lump is also bald and as she is a white guinea pig looks pink. I gave it a gentle squeeze and a thick yellowy substance came out but it did not smell like an abscess does. I have cleaned it with a saline solution.

Do you think it is broken back, which does say will heal on its own and i need to change her diet. i have noticed she has put on weight lately so i suspect she is eating too much of the the flaked peas. I have tried them on other foods but can't seem to get them to eat anything other than their muesli

any help or suggestions please?

The best thing you can do is to get her checked out by a vet in case she is in any pain.

Yes I agree! Best get her looked at just for peace of mind! You would never forgive yourself if it got worse or she was in pain! :{

i plan to go on friday when my preferred vet is in but just wanted some advice in themaentime. She is fine in herself and eating and doing her normal things.

'Broken back' is a name for a condition, usually due to pregnancy hormones, of hairloss in the centre back. Your pig sounds as though she has a sebaceous cyst from your description, so a vet check to confirm would be wise.
