Hello everyone 👋🏻 I'm just asking about my (around 2 years old) piggie, Maisy, for she has got suspected ovarian cysts. She has been rumble strutting as if on heat for around three weeks now, but last night she stepped it up a gear. She was rumbling, chirping and relentlessly chasing and mounting my other girl, Arrietty. She left my other pig, Connie, alone but when she mounts Arrierty, she holds her there and then pulls on her hair with her teeth and then let's go and continues the chase. So last night I decided to separate them and let them be bar buddies so that no injuries could happen while I was asleep. this morning I took the divider out because I didn't want their bond to break, and everything seems very calm and normal so I am wondering if she is just exhausted from all the chasing or weather she just had a bit of a bonkers night. About a month ago we took her to the vets because her behavior was very frantic when usually so calm and chilled out. The vet said she was healthy and suspected it was just a change in hormones if she is stopping going onto heat at this age. with some calming remedies she went back to normal. We also asked about the thin hair around her rump that she has always had. the vet said its nothing to worry about and is probably something she had since she was little, (she's a rescue so we'll never know) do you think she has ovarian cysts? Her nipples seem fine and not crusty or swollen and the hair on her flanks seems thick and healthy. She has always been a bit pear shaped but I think that's just the way she is and the vet didn't mention it. Thank you so so much for any advice 💗 🌻🧡💚💜💖

I’m sorry to hear this.

It may be related to ovarian cysts so she should be assessed/scanned by a knowledgeable vet.

The fact your vet has said ‘stopping going into heat at this age’ tells me that this vet may not be knowledgable. There is no menopause for guinea pigs - she will go into heat every 15-17 days for entire life

I’ve added a guide below which gives more details on cysts

Sows: Behaviour and Female Health Problems (including mounting and ovarian cysts)

If cysts are not found, then you may need to look into their bond if this continues but first port of call should be a medical angle.
