My piggies have opened a whole new world of sewing to me. I finally went out and bought myself a sewing machine even though i barely know how to use it. I have been trying to make pee pads following a video on you tube. Part of the instructions are that you have to make an edging and then an inner square to hold everything together. My issue is I cannot get the inner squares even. They come out slanted and very uneven. Anyone have any tips on how to make the lines even? Thanks!

Here is a pic of one I made, I am having a problem centering the middle square as you can see. lol

You may be trying a very complicated method - could you please put up a link to the ebay video so we could have a look and see if there is an easier way to do it.

right i see yeah i have a few ideas what could be part of the problem, what are you using to pad it inside to? You should have a guide on your machine to help you what machine is it? I always measure and mark with pins then tack first (tacking is a loose large hand stitch that is easily pulled out afterwards, tack in a diff colour to what your sewing with so you can see it clearly)

this is the video from you tube. I can follow the guide for the outer edge but when I go
in more it covers the guide so I have nothing to go by. I have just been trying to eyeball it.
I use a uhaul pad in between the 2 pieces of fleece.
I have this machine spin_prod_183262001.webp

oki from the size of your peepad I don't think you NEED to quilt it twice so you don't need the inner square of stitching in my opinion. its just a nice touch looks wise. A main issue with fleece is its stretchy so be careful when machine sewing not to over stretch or sew it too tightly.

I'll try and give you a written step by step of how I would make one personally let me know if it makes enough sense.

1: cut your fleece to desired size allowing an inch or so for seams. (better to have too much than to little)

2: place the fabrics top side against each other (so inside out like in the video)

3: sew around the seams leaving a gap to turn it out.

4: Turn it out the right way then cut your center piece of material (wadding/uhaul/towel etc) slightly smaller and put it inside the pad and make sure it reaches all the corners etc.

5: machine sew an inch from the edge your quilting square this then holds the wadding into place (by not sewing the wadding into the original seam it makes it less bulky)

6: sew an innner quilting square if it needs it.

7: close the gap in the pad when your happy with it using this type of stitch

and voila

does this help at all?
