I have two single Guinea pigs that are too dominate to live with others. One is a male and one is a female. I would like to put their cage right against eachother so they can interact with eachother better. I was worried though that they might hump through the cage? Does this happen? as I don’t want an accidental breeding on my conscience.

Thanks,

Drew

As long as the male cannot climb the bars (ie don’t pig houses right next to the divide) then they can live as neighbours.

Single boars can live happily next to sows or mixed gender pairings groups as long as they cannot climb or jump over or wiggle through the divider. They cannot hump through it, just sniff each other's bums; but if you are really worried, you can cable tie a small strip of cardboard or plastic to the bottom of the divider. Most sows that do not accept other sows will not accept a male in their territory; I have done enough failed bondings with the mildest of mild neutered boars in that respect...

Make sure that you cable-tie the divider so it cannot be rattled loose and not have any furniture to climb on next to it. You can also peg a towel over the top or place a plank over it on the boar's side if the boar in question is younger and more agile.
I usually push my hay trays next to each other across the divide so they can hang out together in there for socialising.

Brace for some initial excitement and plenty of territorial behaviour with confirmed singles.

My Myrddin is currently living next to his sister and neutered half-brother for company while waiting for his own neutering op so he can go and live with sows of his own in the long term.
