Hello everyone,
Wondering if anyone could help please! I’ve got two male piggies, and have had them for almost a year now I got them when they was 8 weeks old so I’ve had them since they were little ones. However I came home to them aggressively fighting the other day they both seem fine no one seems hurt but it was terrifying to watch as they’ve always got on! I feel like I’ve done everything right they’ve always seemed happy together. They have lots of room. They have a connecting outdoor and indoor cage, the indoor is 2.5x3 c&c grids and then a small piggy tunnel to the outdoor one which is 2m x 1m! Which they have access to all day, So I would say very spoilt hahah. They have plenty of enrichment, own bowls each, own bottles each, own beds!
They get all the fresh veggies daily! And everything else to go with it.
I separated them when they were fighting the other day as soon as I noticed so they spent the night without each other, then they came back together in the morning and seemed fine I thought maybe they might have worked it out. I came back home after the second day and there was tension and a lot of purring, heads up, chasing and small amount of fighting so I separated them again as I don’t want one of them to get hurt!
I’ve read lots about splitting the cage so they can see each other but obviously that’s a little bit of work for me to do which I’m happy doing! But before committing to that split cage inside and out, meaning I would have to do another connecting tube so they can both go indoors and outdoors, but before committing I want to make sure I’m doing the right thing as I’m scared if it’s not the right thing then they won’t be happy!
Any help would be appreciated thanks so much!

Hi and welcome

As your boys have fought again once you have reunited them, please split the cage and allow each to have their own territory.

Unfortunately, with boar babies you will only ever know whether they work out together once they are through the teenage hormone spikes. More actually make it than not but you can never predict that. I am very sorry that you are one of the unlucky ones. Once it is very clear where things are heading, you needn't wait until blood has been drawn. :(

Hellooo
Thank you for the welcome and replying I really appreciate it!
oh noooo! Poor little babies! Like I said they always used to get on that’s such a shame ☹️😅I will start the moving process today to get them to their own sides!
Out of curiosity when will the teenage stage finish and what age do I test them again in the future?

Thank you again! Really appreciate it!

I'm sorry they have had a fight. I’m also sorry to say that you can never put them back together again at any point in their lives.
The fight is a clear sign that they don’t like each other and that is sadly not something that ever change.

Hi

Teenage takes around 10 months and the odd sudden hormone spike can last into younger adulthood.

Please click on the green link in my first post. It contains all the detailed information on the different phases during teenage, which is not all the same but is in fact a series of development stages. It contains further very practical information that covers this period, too.

You can find more information on boars that covers their whole life via this helpful link here: A Comprehensive Guide to Guinea Pig Boars

Boar bits and their care (with pictures): Boar Care: Bits, Bums & Baths

Please accept that we all do this for free in our own free time and that we cannot type out the whole information in every single post. For this purpose, we have created practical guides that contain the little how-to tips in an easy to follow step by step way as well as more helpful in-depth advice. The all the many questions and our collective forum experiences of coming to 20 years as well as long term owner experiences have gone into those guides. We don't just repeat what is making the rounds online; we put those things to test and rate the outcomes. Only what stands the test of time is making it into our own advice collections. ;)

All the best.
