Today, I lost Mario :-( I am in shock. He was only about 18 months and seemed happy today.... All day in his run with Pompom his lady pig, he was popcorning in the sunshine. Had shade, water grass and food - tea at about 6pm carrots, apple celery and then my daughter was helping me catch the piggies for bed time and he just suddenly went limp in her arms! He coughed and made a few wheezy noises and I tried mouth to mouth - his throat was swollen up and he was dead within 5 minutes. Cannot believe it? What happened? Spent all evening crying and my poor daughter is blaming herself for picking him up - thinking she caused it. Horrible day - popcorn free sweet Mario :-( xxxxxxxxx

Really sorry for your loss.

RIP Mario

What a terrible shock for you all. Your poor daughter must not think that way or she will feel so guilty. What an awful thing to happen. I feel so upset for you all. I am so sorry for your loss. :(

I am so sorry for you! It was most certainly not your daughter! But it is a terrible shock when it happens under your hands; it was for me in a similar situation (acute heart failure).

He may most likely either have swallowed something that got stuck or his heart suddenly gave out; the latter can happen at any age without warning.

RIP Mario

Thanks - still in shock, I spoke to the rescue he came from and apparently a lot of the pigs that came from that big Thirsk rescue last year had polyps in THIER throats and died as a result of in breeding? Mario came from there so it is possible he had them too. We will never know I guess.. But he is to buried today in the garden in a special box decorated by the children xx

So sorry to hear about Mario. Hope you and your daughter start to get over the shock soon.:( Am glad he was having such a good day in the sunshine in his run before hand.

What an awful shock for you all. Take comfort in the fact he had the best last day a guinea pig could ask for and was with the ones who loved him at the end. Popcorn free little one x

I'm so sorry for your loss. It is most certainly not your daughter's fault. RIP Mario, popcorn free in the meadows over the bridge and enjoy munching on the lush green grass.

Thankyou x

It so lovely to read all the messages for Mario Thankyou it's comforting. :)

Those of you who read Guinea pig magazine might have read his rescue story in there, he was such a lovely boy, I was proud of him - he had a bad start in life and terrible ringworm when i first adopted him but he recovered and became so handsome and I even have a lovely painting of him that an artist friend did for me, it was my mothers day present at least I have those things to remember him with.

Pompom has bonded very well with Yorkie - he is a gentle boar I have been fostering, so she is at least not lonely and he has a forever home with us now too. xxxxx

My sincere condolence to you and your family. :(

I'm glad to hear Pompom has herself a companion and Yorkie has his new forever home too.

Yes I read Mario's story, precious boy, loved lots and never forgotton, rest peacefully little one.
X

So sorry for your loss. (((((hugs))))) Sleep well Mario and popcorn over the bridge. x
