hi guys,

I went over to give my guinea pigs breakfast this morning, and noticed Marmite looked a little bit odd, hes looked under the weather for a couple of days but his eyes have been bright, hes been eating (prefering his 'salad bag' to the normal food) been drinking as normal everythings appeared normal, so i went in this morning and noticed his fur looked dodgey on his white patch, manged to get a hold of him ( hes not been very well handled before i got him) and gave him a once over, hes got scabs and bald patches on his shoulder gave his hutch the once over but absolutly nothing he can hurt himself on, Pancake had the same thing when he arrived with me and vet had suggested an insecticidal spray, so have given marmite a spray with it too see if it helps, if hes no better in a couple of days hes off to 'sick pigs', i feel terrible for not noticing anything on his skin before hand :soz:

anyone got any ideas as to what it could be? or has anyone any other suggestions? he recently started a new guinea pig food......could it be an allergy? :ple:

Please have your piggies checked for mange mites or fungal. An insectical spray won't help against either of them! They need different treatment, so it is worth getting to see a proper vet for decent medication; shop products are too low dosed for curing acute cases. We can help you with tips for both once you have a diagnosis.

We have got a piggy savvy vet locator on the top bar; I think that Apex vets are not far from Edinburgh, they are the best vets for the central belt. http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/pages/guinea-pig-vet-locator/

thank you :) i've just looked down all the pictures and it doesn't resemble any of them! so i will give the vet a phone as now I'm a worried piggy mum! :( will try and get photos when i go back over later x

Just a wee marmite update, after speaking with and a visit to the vet he was quite happy to wait see what happened with the insecticidal spray, if no improvement was to give him a wee bath and was to use ringworm treatment (i forget its name lol) well quite pleased to say he has really livened up and is nowhere near as itchy and haven't had to use the ringworm treatment :D! also changed his food which appears to have made a world of difference :D! xxxxxx
