We noticed on Sunday night that Maud was not quite herself and there were some squidgy poos in the cage. On closer inspection we found that she was leaking urine, though not doing any squeaky pees. The minute we pick her up her urine comes shooting out and it is also very strong smelling. Am hoping it is a UTI but she is off to the Cat and Rabbit clinic tomorrow for further investigation. On doing some research it is possible that there is a stone stuck in her urethra which is causing a back up of urine and an infection.

Will update when home tomorrow, will possibly be there all day depending on what they find.

All the best! my suspicion would also be a stone in the urethra and a cystitis from the irritiation.

Thank goodness we went to Simon. He did an x-ray and there were no stones thank goodness. She has had a flush and there was a lot of debris etc but her urine was clear by the time he finished. We have a course of Sulfratrim and metacam. When we got home she was bone dry.

That is great news! It is likely that the bladder walls are irritated from the debris, but Simon is one of the vets that I trust with a bladder flush (in fact, I have often enough done with my Cariad, who did live another two years thanks to Simon).
She never had another stone after the first, very fast growing one, but she suffered from a regular build-up of debris in her bladder, which I could manage to slow down but never completely stop.
All the best for a good recovery!

She is much brighter in herself and was up for veg last night and this morning. Still pees when picked up but she is not wet.

Good news! It will take a few days for the cystitis to settle down fully.

Maud saw Simon again yesterday and he was really happy with her so she has stopped her Sulfatrim and Metacam. She is back to jumping on her carrot cottage and bossing Robyn around too so that tells us she is her usual self again.

Great news Helen. Simon is a wonderful vet.

Poor Maud started to go downhill again on Friday so saw Simon again yesterday. He said her bladder is very inflamed and she is passing blood this time whereas she wasn't before. As it is only 2 weeks since her last xray and flush he wanted to go ahead with a change of antibiotics first so she is on Zithromax for 2 weeks. I have her booked in for Thursday next week so she can see Simon before he is on holiday for 2 weeks and have another flush and xray if needed. She is feeling very sorry for herself and not eating that much so we have started syringe feeding. She is still on Metacam.

Sending lots of love to Maud, gosh you are going through it at the moment Helen. Huge hugs to you both and the pigges x x

Oh no I am sorry Helen, glad you know when he is away, I just mentioned it on your other thread. Nothing worse than 2 poorly ones at the same time :( xx

She has been eating hay tonight, ate her digestive vitamin and had a few drinks so slight improvement. Gets excited for veg though and grabs it but doesn't actually eat it.

Maud has now started to eat veg but only the bits she really likes. Has eaten hay too but again only the types she likes which at the moment is Pets at Home own brand timothy which she prefers over the Oxbow! She was chewing a loo roll this morning too. Am paranoid about her teeth over growing as I forgot to ask Simon to check them. Is also maintaining her weight with minimum syringe feeding give or take about 20g.

Maud has been back to the Cat and Rabbit clinic now the Maddocks are back and saw Kim yesterday morning. She was very honest with me and said that it was difficult to determine what we were dealing with and it may be that ultimately a few months down the line we may have to consider letting her go if the time between her needing flushes stayed the same as it was risky her having an anaesthetic every 4 to 6 weeks and she was still having symptoms despite the flushes. We agreed that I would leave her there overnight though to have a flush either later that day or in the morning, after which we would try sulfatrim for a few weeks. At about 4 o'clock Simon called while she was under anaesthetic and said that as they were flushing they could see a lot of pus that looked to be coming from her Uterus and he suspected Pyometra and said that a spay was needed. The op went well and she went home with the Maddocks overnight. Have picked her up this afternoon and she is bright and has been eating a bit of veg. She was a bit damp when we got home but I think she sat in her wee in the carrier. She is on Zithromax to ward off any remaining infection and sees Simon on Thursday. It is a matter of time now to see if she still has bladder issues after the spay or if what seemed to be sludge was actually the infection.

That must have been a shock for u!
Hopefully it will have sorted her out &it was the infection not sludge too.
Fingers &paws all crossed for a full &speedy recovery :luv:
Healing vibes coming your way Maud. Xx

Maud has her follow up with Simon on Thursday. She has lost 80g since the op so I want to ask how much of that is the uterus. Also I noticed her squeaky peeing last night, one of the times was on my lap though and she has always squeaked when peeing on my lap. She did do it in the cage though too.
