I talked to my father some more, as long as I take care of the piggy myself and he doesn't have to, I can get a guinea pig. The problem is he wants me to keep the piggy outside, I'm just not sure the weather is stable enough =( so I don't know... Opinions?

If I do get one or two, I won't be able to for a couple months because I have some bills to pay first, but I'm not sure if the climate outside is well enough for the little ones to stay out there..

it depends, alot of people keep them outside but you would have to have a good sheltered spot and a warm hutch, personally i like mine inside so i know they are never cold or too hot.
Before you get piggies(because you will need to get two) access whether you will be able to afford all of there care which includes big costs like
hutch/cage and also general things like hay/pellets/fruit/veg,they will also need alot of extra things and money put away regularly for vetcare as its not cheap, basically you need to be very prepared with piggies,i find my 8 cost more than four dogs and thats 100% truth, goodluck xxxxxxxxxx

I know. Thats why I'm allowing myself a few months to get the money for supplies and by then I will have more income than I have at the moment so it shouldn't be a problem. My main worry is them being outside.. Since we live off the coast of Del Mar its sometimes a bit chilly even during summer..

there are some members here that live in cold areas and have outdoor piggies,i just no it takes a few extra things to keep them warm like maybe hutch huggers and stuff,i dont know much about so i will let them help you but i dont think weather is an issue if you make sure they are extra cosie xxxxxxxxxxx

Mkay, thank you very much =3 Also, if anyone knows of any rescue centers in the San Diego/Del Mar area that have guinea pigs, I would prefer to adopt them

Hi why don't you have a look in housing i know Nikii just posted not long ago her update on her piggie's outdoor hutches :)
You'll get some great ideas too. A lot of the girls in the UK also use heavy blankets to cover their piggies/bun cages :)
Good luck and it really looks like you're putting a lot of thought into this x>>

Of course =3 I've taken care of animals all my life. Its important to me to make sure they are comfortable.

I will look into the housing rather than cages, it sounds like a good idea because of the wind chill. And I will include blankets inside the house at bight probably, it will involve extra cleaning in the morning but I don't mind.

I was thinking about the blankets, but I don't want to make it too stuffy in the cage, though it may be okay if I only put the blanket on at night. Since this is a desert climate it is sometimes very humid during the day, and other times very dry. Actually thinking on the heat during the day the cage and blankets may be a better idea than a house.. Yeah. Probably. I may need a house for winter though.
