Today we booked our tickets for the megabus and going to London for the day on Saturday 4th December. I found it very difficult getting a hotel so we are just going to go for the day.

The next part is trying to work out which tube to get on! Ive been looking at this map http://www.visitlondon.com/areas/tube/ and i think we get the Victoria tube to oxford circus? Is that right, so we will be in the town or where the shops are?

So confusing! Can anyone help? mallethead

sorry i cant, we are lucky if we get a train every hour round here!

Just wanted to say have a great time xx

I may have missed a thread somewhere but where about's are you going? I am a regular visitor to London as we have friends who live down there (have just came back) and I must say, I still find the tube confusing :{ Do you mean to get a tube from Victoria station or to travel on the Victoria line?

We are getting the megabus from Cardiff to London. The bus will take us to Victoria street bus station and i have been looking on the internet and there is a tube under that called Victoria tube i think and the plan was to get the tube into the town, near oxford street and i think someone said that it was only two stops using the tube, but i dont know which stop it is. I was trying to find a bus and tube times but had no luck only that map of where the tube goes. But I'm finding it hard working out where we have to go! mallethead

Any info will be a great help! :)

I don't shop in London but if you just want to go to Oxford Circus on the tube, then go to the underground at victoria and get on the Victoria Line- the light blue one on the map (when you get underground there will be 2 options- one north and one south but you'll know the one you want because it shows all the stops from then on, so you will want the one showing oxford circus). Oxford circus is only 2 stops and will only take a few minutes. You won't need a timetable as the tube for that line will be running almost constantly so you just wait a few minutes for the next one. I hope that helps. :)

Thank you!

So i was reading it right, wow thats good for me. So I'm thinking that most of the shops are in oxford circus, like the big primark etc. (where i cane stock up on fleece haha)

:)

Hee hee, Flips got in before me :)) There are loads of shops in Oxford Circus. The huge Primark is on Oxford Street :) If you wish to go elsewhere in the surrounding area, it only takes a few minutes on the tube and like Flips has already said, they run every few minutes. Have fun xx

I had a look at a map and the tube at oxford circus is at the junction of Oxford Street and Regent Street so ideal for shopping. As I said, I don't really do shopping in London but have been to the huge Hamleys store on Regent Street and also Fortnum and Mason on Piccadily. Both worth a look if you like that sort of thing. :)

So that tube should take us to the primark and most of the other shops on that strip. Yay! It dont look that bad now to work out and only 2 stops! :))

get a small map for the tube - usually in the back of diaries etc.

it does look confusing to begin with but onces youve worked out where you are and what line you want it becomes easier. as each station will have a list of stops. North/south east/west bound or direction for the circle line. jump on and jump off

its also worth getting a day ticket (somewhere around £5) as a single journey is something like £2 - as your going to need 2 tickets anyway - one there and one back - for the extra £1 its worth it if you want to go anywhere else. and id advise going to hyde park to see the winter wonderland

Shall look for the day ticket and we shall try and get to Hyde park too. :)

We decided to go December time so we could hopefully see all the christmas lights and display.

You can walk the entire length of Oxford Street and it will get you to Hyde Park!

To find Primark (and to be going in the general direction of Hyde Park), you need to keep walking past all the department stores, so you'll see a BHS, John Lewis, Debenhams, House of Fraser and Selfridges and it's a little bit further on from there across the road from Selfridges. Selfridges is DEFINITELY worth a visit as the window displays at this time of year are brilliant. And it's really ok to browse without buying! (I do it all the time).

Then, if you keep walking about another 5 minutes, you'll find Marble Arch, which is at the top end of Hyde Park. You can then easily get a bus back to Victoria from there.

Shops like Oasis, Mango, Zara etc are at the opposite end of Oxford Street, just as you get off the tube. But most of the department stores have got these in anyway...Though the MASSIVE Topshop is always worth a visit.

You can plot all routes and print off various maps from here:

I hope this helps!

Thanks for that, ive had a look at the maps and now looking into a oyster card. Can you just have one between the two of you? As I'm thinking we will only be getting the tube from victoria tube to oxford street and then back again. Also do you just top them up or pay a fee first off to buy the card and then top up?

Thanks x x

Just had another look and am i right in thinking we are only going to be using zone 1 on the tube? If so i think a day travel card would be better each at £5.60 each for the day, thats if its only zone 1 we pass through? If so I'm going to order them online save waiting in the queues when we get there.

Yeah, you'd only be in zone 1. Oyster's not worth it for a day because you'd need 1 each, and they charge you £3 for it, so you'd have to put at least another £5 on top of that to get around.

Queues at Victoria are normally a mare, so ordering online is a good idea.
