Can piggies eat melon & should i take the skin off before they have it?


my girls has a tiny bit tonight & they loved the inside and the skin :s

Yep, I know watermelon, honeydew and cantaloupe are all good. Just be sure to wash the rinds (skin) well, as some supermarkets wax the skin.

Good to hear your girls have found something new they like!
 
I knew they could have the inside but I wasn't sure about the skin til Isaw ccc4's post :)
 
ive not tried mine with melon yet but they are cheeky an refuse 2 eat carrots
 
Mine had Gala melon the other day and they ate the skin also.

Melon is very good if you have a sickly piggy who isn't eating or drinking much as it provides water and sweetness.

I must admit I don't feed mine very much with melon - only if they are in the run as I don't like the bedding getting stuck to it.
 
I give my piggies melon. They love it.

However, when I only had Gertie and Mirtle (pre unexpected pregnancy), I just put a melon slice in and didn't expect a tug of war! Preggers pig Mirtle won! So from then on I chopped it into two for sharing, but they never did do sharing very well...malletheadmallethead
 
I scrub the skin; some like eatinng it, others will scour it clean right down to the rind.

But I have had several pigs in feeding ecstasy over a piece of melon!

(PS: It's my Christmas treat for my guineas!)
 
great thread! Because last night i was cutting a cantelope melon up for Dan and I and thought...Hmmmm? Can they have melon? So I checked my "Guinea Food Bible" and it said it was ok.....they Loved it! finished the one small piece each i gave them and starting Wheeking crazily...as if to say "More...can we please have more!?!"
 
Mine love melon - it's usually canteloupe they get as that's what I have. They don't get it very often, down to cost as usual.
 
didnt know they could eat skin always cut mine of if they can eat skin on melons can they on mango
 
I LOVE melon. Yum Yum. My pigs only get a little bit but they also love it and always eat the skin!
