Hi

We have just got back from the vets where Jet passed a bladder stone. Thankfully an X-ray showed no more stones so we have been sent away with metacam (and diet advice) as he is feeling a little sorry for himself. The vet said put it in something tasty but jet is uber fussy and picks at things. Any ideas for what I can put it on? Or how to give it to him?

Kate

Mosty piggies love metacam as it's pretty sweet anyway. I just give it direct from a 1ml syringe. H has daily doses to manage his arthritis and loves it so much hew pulls the syringe out my hand. I've never found a piggy that didn't like it so I wouldn't worry about trying to hide it in food, just give it straight.

We have a house full of metacam junkies. First time you try they may run from the syringe, but the taste is so good they all try to grab the syringe for a fix!

Thank you, apparently metacam on melon is irresistible so he has wolfed a bit of melon down with it in top (and ignored the other given after which had none on it)! I may just syringe it tomorrow.

They will take it straight from the syringe.... It is like piggy crack to them. Our pigs run off with the syringe if possible, just you watch :)

lots of healing vibes being sent

My vet is causious about this drug and usualy perscribs small doses, (drops) that l just drop on the frount teeth , most pigs love the tast

Thank you all, tonight he had 80% from the syringe then got fed up and had the rest on melon rind! Thankfully he seems to be improving. Fingers crossed it continues.

Ha not my little Dotty, who would run off with the syringe when it had food in it, put the metacam in it and somehow she just know it was inside and would be so difficult.
I would rather have a pig who hates metacam but loves syringe food though. I would agree that syringing is much easier though.
