Hello,
A few weeks ago I posted that my guinea pig (Tippy Toe) bit into a tumor / cyst and was bleeding. No vet would see him immediately so I came to this site for advice. Thankfully, several people were able to assist with home remedies and Tippy Toes wound began healing. However, today-2 weeks later, he bit into it again and I couldn't contain the blood. This time, I located a vet (quite a distance away) but they were able to see him and offer some assistance.

They offered Metcam (.35ml) for the pain and SMZ-TMP (.5ml) as an antibiotic. He took both ok and went about his happy way. (**side note** even with all the bleeding, there was never a change in his eating, pooping running, etc). However, now 7 hours after the meds, he seems to be very mellow. Is this result of the meds? Should I be concerned? Its only day 1 and I'm supposed to give Metcam for the next 4 days and SMZ-TMP for 14.

Thank you in advance for any thoughts / advice you all may have!

How old is your pig? What strength metercam ? I believe the older a pig gets the more difficult it is for it to metabaliz the metercam,
Also one of the possible side effects are decrease activity level

If this continues! if it were my pig l would descuss with my vet stopping the metercam

I would never stop antibiotics without advice from the vet that prescribed the medication. I have a guinea pig who has been taking Metacam long term with no ill effects .

:agr: Don't take any action without first discussing it with your vet.
