i have noticed today that i have mice in the shed,, not surprised tbh,, there is sawdust and hay and food all in there and i am not scared of them but what i want to know is that do they harm guinea pig health,,i mean i have noticed quite a lot of mice poo on top and around the hutches,, will mouse poo be harmfull to guinea pigs,, they would only be feild mice

Mmmmmmm? Not sure if they would harm them (doubtful considering the size) but I would worry more about parasites. Can you keep everything in a box or cupboard and try to eliminate them? You can get humane traps so you don't have to be a murderer! O0 Good luck O0

Yes wild mice can carry all sorts of disiese that can kill piggies. I keep Piggies in the shed my Food is kept a Plastic lidded tub and I bag the Hay. I keep the lino floor very clean with disenfectent too. I have never had mice in the shed but have had them under it once or twice I put poisen down as soon as I spot one. Which gets rid of them Fast ;)
I would get something to keep your food in and try and put the hay on top of a hutch if its a bale. Good luck most diy stores stock poisen.

thanks,, i was worried about disease,, i keep the food in a container with a lid on but the hay and sawdust are packed at the side of the hutches,,,but there is always some sawdust/ ha/ food on the floor in the morning after they have popcorned around and kicked it out,, i brush up every morning and it was only this morning i have seen mouse poo on top and under the hutches :-\,,must be more than one cause it is quite a bit too,, think i will have to go and get some poison which i dont like doing,, we live around a lot of country side and feild mice dont bother me,, but i dont want them harming my piggy's neither

will have to upset darling teenage son aswell cause he keeps his golf clubs in the shed and i have a feeling if there are mice and they have been in the shed they will make a nice nest in his club bag :) he will have to check them out tonight and put them in the loft i think

I am a poison user too if you have mice the likely hood of getting rats is quite high so get it sorted pronto! O0

;D sorry had to laugh about the golf bag ;D Try putting poisen outside the shed first see if the mice will venture out :-\ in the cold I doubt it. You could try raising the height of the Hutch with bricks make it harder for the mice. Good luck Mice breed fast hope you get rid of them fast.
Another thought though if you have only a couple of piggies you could get an indoor cage to put them in house. Then clear the shed out and exterminate the little minxy mice. Then block and entries they where useing with any luck that should do it ;)

we have a little mice problem at the moment too, they've got in my shed and out building and caused a bit of damage to my hay, straw and bunny food. I was going to use humane traps, but my mums insited we put poisen down, they've eaten it so I presume there dead :'(

right since i last posted i cleaned the shed out,, removed the golf clubs,,, wrapped the sawdust and hey in a black bin liner (not that practical but at least it is tidy) and i havent seen any trace of mice since 98) surely it wouldnt be a passing visit,, every morning i go in to check and nothing not a grain ofmouse poo any were

and they werent in the golf clubs neither,,, wonder if bonfire night scared them off

Don't question it honey just be glad they've gone! Yippee ;D

As soon as you disturb their home they'll be off to find somewhere else. Like Black Jack said don't knock it.... ;D ;D

Like everyone has said mice + pigs = :'( >:(

I know people that have given up their piggies before because of mice :o :(

I would just try and make sure you dont have any food about for them to munch and keep your eyes peeled! :-\

Fingers crossed they have boooggered off! O0

I used to have mice in my shed when the guineas were in there. I didn't see any evidence that they caused problems but I didn't want to encourage them either. I blocked up everywhere they could get in. Poisoning wasn't an option for me, can't kill anything. They couldn't get in eventually. I'd concentrate on trying to find out where they come in and block it all off. Otherwise you'll always have a problem.

Omigod! I would never ever think of giving up my guineas because of mice :'( - obviously not a suitable piggy mummy in the first place!
