I was thinking of getting George a larger cage because she is yet to grow bigger. Also, it will be handy if I get her a companion. This cage is quite roomy and pretty cheap, considering:

Pet stores totally rip you off on prices! I find sometimes that buying these things online is best. Has anyone bought this particular cage before?
 
I have that one for my girls. It is great quality, but urine stains the bottom so easily, and it is a hassle to clean out.rolleyes
 
Midwest cage is fine for 2 pigs, but not more unless you buy another cage and connect them.
Have you consider building C&C?

My first cage only costs $25. $15 for storage cubes grids and $10 for coroplast.

Do you put any bedding over the bottom or just a blanket? I thought that a fleece blanket would be softer for George, but in just two days, the urine would smell so bad, so I just switched back to the Carefree bedding.

How big was your first cage? Also, do you have a hard time cleaning the cage that you made yourself?
 
My first cage was 2x4 grids. I could have made a 2x6 if I wanted to. A box of grids from Bed Bath and Beyond has 16 grids in the box. A 4x8 ft sheet of coroplast cost me $10. That was back in 2009. Prices have gone up a little. I can still find the same price in my area though. People have reported coroplast prices range from $10 - $40 in their area.

You can get cheap grids from Sears, Wal-Mart, Kmart. Don't get grids from Target, the spacing between the bars are too far apart and piggies can get their heads stuck.

When you buy grids, only look for ones that have 9 squares across.

The best absorbent layer under fleece, in my opinion, is uhaul furniture pad. They're made from recycled denim. To keep fleece cleaner longer, add a small feeding area with regular bedding in there. You'd still need to sweep fleece at least once a day, but with separate feeding area, you won't have to worry about hay sticking to fleece.

For fleece to work well, it has to be washed and dried at least 3 times (don't use fabric softener). From all the fleece I've tried, I like Joann's Blizzard the most. They're 50% off right now.
