mineral/salt licks?

i just read that are not necessary is this true?

i have many mineral blocks in shapes of strawberries and pineapples and all sorts, as i have a vast range of birds

yes it is true. guinea pigs do not need any extra salt. all they need is provided in their piggie diets! most piggies actually do not use the salt licks anyways.

Yes, they should get all the minerals etc.. from their diet of hay, pellets and veggies

if they are getting a complete diet which consists of Hay/pellets/veg/fruit,grass and dandelion type plants they are getting everything that they need,all supplements and vitamin/mineral type things are not needed,any supplements put in water is a complete waste of time as they never get the correct amount anyway and it can actually put them off drinking,you will probably only see them very occasionally using the salt lick and mineral block,i would take them out,they are basically money makers for big companys trying to rip small animal owners offxxxxxxxx

Agree - totally not needed and just a scam by manufacturers. I bought one when I first got my piggies but they didn't even touch it.
