I’m sure there must be a file somewhere but can someone point me to it! Thanks 😊

I think it’s a 4x2 in a C&C, just guessing though

Oh thanks, I need it in cm- it needs to be a shop bought cage but I don’t think I’ll get anything bigger than my two attaches together- it’s just with mine you can only access through the top and it’s it almost impossible to catch them- big human looming over them! I need one with a front opening.

Minimum RSPCA / Humane Society guidelines for one floor ground space.
Strongly recommended: go one size up if at all possible!

1-2 guinea pigs: 2x4 ft (120x60 cm) or 8 ft square = 2x3 C&C grid cage; if you can, please consider a 2x4 grid cage instead as it is the minimum recommendation
3 guinea pigs: 2x5 ft (150x60 cm) or 10 ft square = 2x4 C&C grid cage; strongly recommended for 2 guinea pigs
4 guinea pigs 2x6 ft (180x60 cm) or 12 ft square = 2x5 C&C grid cage, recommended for 2 boars or 3 sows or 1 neutered boar/2 sows
Add 2 square feet (60x30cm) for any additional guinea pig.

The recommendations are valid only for one floor; any extras like hay lofts count as bonus and cannot be added to the ground floor since guinea pigs are not climbers and use mainly one floor to live in and to exercise.
Please remember that guinea pigs are group animals and should not be kept as singles without any contact/regular stimulation from others of their kind, even if is just through bars.

Exactly what I just read! Thanks

So two 140 plazas together gives a decent size length ways- just for winter.
I currently have two 120 attached.

Let us know if you have the right size for your piggies once you have got the tape measure out.

Is there a section just on building a C and C cage?

Not that I’ve seen, if you want you can start up a new thread specifically on the topic

I’ve found some stuff, and a company online that supplies it all but maybe an expensive way to do it. Think I’ll start a thread, thanks!

It’s 210cm for four girls. 150cm which is big enough for two pigs ( which is a 4x2 c&c) + 60cm (which is an extra 30cm extra per extra pig). Would equate to a 6x2 c&c.

Ok! I’ve decided to stick with cages because we have cats- while our Xmas tree is up they will be in my son’s old bedroom and will have 300 cm X 60 cm.
I’m buying 140 plaza plus a 160 plaza.

When they come back down to living room I’ll take off the 60 cm extension so their cage will be 240 X 60
Their current cage (2 together) is 240 X 50 so they will have a wee bit more width wise. The whole reason for getting new ones is I hate how the maxi Skyline doesn’t open up at the front, just a small door.

Would my hutch be big enough for 4 guinea pigs? 150 by 60 by 116cm?
Got two girls but one has had babies. Just seeing if it big enough if I keep them?

No I’m afraid it wouldn’t. A 150cm x 60cm hutch is only big enough for two piggies (it’s the equivalent size of a 2x4 c&c). Upper levels do not count towards the cage size.

Cage Size Guide

And of course ifs only possible to keep them all together If the babies are both female.

Why don't they as it a very big hutch? I got a big outside run too.

Guinea pigs are ground roaming and need their space to meet size requirements on one level. Upper levels don’t double the amount of single level floor space.
As I said this kind of 5ft hutch is only big enough for two piggies

The outside run is not a permanent home and therefore can’t be included.

You need 213x60cm for four piggies. The one above is enough for 3 sows or a boar and two sows. This thread is quite old so you would have been better off starting your own.

Additional floors don't count. You have to have enough space for them on one floor. Any additional ones are a bonus.

OK thank you. I'm not getting another hutch as this one was nearly £200.
The pet shop sold me an indoor cage and that's half the size but said it ok for four guinea pigs that's why I thought it be ok

Actually 180cm (6ft) is still only big enough for three Piggies. You need a 210 (7ft) x 60 (2ft) cage for four

sadly that indoor cage doesn’t look even big enough for one.
What size is it?
Yeah I thought that. They given it me for mummy and babies but said it be fine for 4 if kept them all. Which I didn't think it was

No it doesn’t look big enough even for mum and babies ifs certainly not big enough for four.

What are it’s measurements. It would need to be 120cm x 60cm to meet minimum welfare requirements for just two piggies

Is the other sow living alongside mum and babies? She really needs to for the interaction. How big is the cage they were in? I'm afraid you really will have to spend some money to house them in sufficient space, there's no way around it. If your current hutch is two floors and i big enough for the piggies that need more space (3 sows) then you could close off and have sows above and boars below.
