Hi all, and firstly - thank you so much for your help, support and advice three weeks ago when Minni was so ill.

He is still on Baytril and Metacam, but hopefully this is his final week (4 week course). The vet said that the fact he has improved so much on the meds shows that it was pneumonia rather than anything else, thankfully. He has lost a bit of weight, but was quite a big piggie anyway, so he is by no means underweight now. I am just feeding him little and often, tempting him with his favourites, to try and get a bit of weight back on him. (He hates the taste of the Baytril, so it might be that putting him off his food!)

Next week the plan is to suspend the meds for a week, to see what happens, and then take him back to the vet for a progress update.

She has said that he may well have an ongoing respiratory weakness, so I am in the process of trying to get some fleece liners for their home instead of the hay and wood shavings that they have been on, to avoid any risk of dust causing a recurrence. (If anyone can recommend someone who does nice liners, 118x58, please let me know!)

Thank you all again!

I am glad that Minni is doing well again. The taste of baytril is about as hossible as they can come. I made the mistake to lick a spilled drop from my hand once and wished for the next half hour I hadn't! Baytril is also know for its appetite suppressing qualities.

Wishing you all the best with his further recovery.

Perhaps you could give him a couple of pinches of readigrass daily; it is quite rich and should be fed to healthy piggies only as a treat, not as part of their daily diet, but it may help Minion to put back on some weight with some useful fibre. it is however not recommended if Minion has/has had any issues with his urinary tract system.
