Minky's not had a good year, I'll be glad to see the end of 2013 & probably so will she.
It started in May with an abscess & she went blind in one eye. The abscess was removed but came back again and was removed again but again came back. Changed vet & the abscess was successfully removed completely. The sight in her eye then came back but she then got a fungal infection. The day after this cleared she developed a head tilt. This has been treated for about 2 months now & had removed tremendously until last week when it seemed to be getting worse & she lost a bit more weight than normal. After another week when she lost weight. By last night she'd lost another 3 ounces so we syringe fed her overnight on Recovery Plus.
She was a little perkier this morning but I noticed that she was picking food up but not eating it. I decided to check her mouth & discovered that her front teeth were not the same length but diagonal (see picture)

My wife, Sue got a reference book out and read that this condition is often a side effect of problems with the molar teeth especially in guinea pigs with head tilt. Anyway rang the vets & got her in for 12.15. The vet said the same & kept her in to sort her teeth out. Rang at 4.30 and she was just regaining consciousness. Picked her up at 6.15 & found that she'd had her molars & front teeth trimmed. She also has a eye inflammation & cataracts are also present. She's on painkillers (either Loxicom or Metacam) & antibiotics (Baytril) & she's back to see the vet next week.
I'm now going to make a point of checking all my piggies teeth in their weekly check. I feel that I should have spotted this earlier but she'd only just started to go off her feed in the last week. The head tilt is still there but only minor. I just hope it will disappear all of a sudden. It would make a great Christmas present if it disappeared this month.
Final note, I'm hoping that Minky has a trouble free year in 2014
