The girls were out for floor time earlier when I noticed Pixel seemed to have something stuck to her foot. She seemed to be trying to pull something off. Or so I thought.

I scooped her up and her whole foot was covered in blood :( Mild panic set in, but I washed off her foot in some warm water and it turns out that she has hurt her middle toe on her front left paw. The bleeding stopped quite quickly once it was nice and clean and it looks like the nail may have split, but her toe is quite swollen. I guess it looked worse than it was because she's white and the blood just soaked her fur :(

I have absolutely no idea how this has happened though. That's the worst part. There was no fuss, no squeaking, nothing sharp and nowhere to get her toe caught. Just quite a bit of blood :(

She's back in with Pippa now and is putting some weight on it. I'll check the swelling again later and again in the morning. I hoping it turns out to just be the nail :(

Poor girl - these things can happen; it's probably the split that is causing the swelling if it goes right down into the bed. You may get a nail that is growing funnily at first.

The toe should calm down fairly soon.

Hi

Maurice caught his toe on the edge of the cage as I put him back in one night and there did seem to be loads of blood. We took him back out again and noticed his nail was a bit wobbly so we took him to the vet who said that the only thing he could do would be to remove the nail completely.

So a whole load of squealing and a vets bill later he has now gained the nickname stumpy although there does seem to be a lsight nail growing back

Thanks guys:)

She seems okay. I just panicked for a minute!

She's walking on it, but holding it up a little when standing. I don't blame her though - it must hurt like hell :(

She let me touch the nail briefly before pulling it away and it doesn't appear to be loose. I'll keep my eye on her and if it's still swollen or becomes loose then a trip to the vet will be in order

Thanks again for the reassurances
