Hi, first time here and will try to be brief.....18 month old piggy got the snuffles last weekend, took her to the vet Monday who said poss pneumonia. She was off her food and losing weight, and not making her usual squeaks. Vet gave antibiotic injection and gave me Critical Care, Bisolvon powder and more antibiotic to give at home. I spent Tues, Wed and Thurs religiously feeding Critical Care but only succeeded in keeping her stable, she didn't appear to get any better but no worse. Wouldn't eat anything other than CC, breathing laboured, no weight gain. Thursday night she went downhill, got stressed by the syringe feeding and didn't even want water. We were prepared for the worst and I put her in my room in a big box last night with hay, water, etc. During the night she jumped out - totally bizarre as it's a box she often goes in to come into the house with her sister and neither have shown any inclination to jump out before! Couldn't believe she had the strength. Still didn't want to eat this morning so made vet appointment and put her back in hutch. An hour later she was running round! I offered her a selection of lettuce, cuc, grapes, apple - all her favourites - and she's had a good pick at them, more than she's eaten all week. Have we had a miracle reprieve? I didn't expect her to see out the night. Any advice grateful received, thank you.

Hi, My piggie has pneumonia and like yours she seems to be getting better. My vet says if they get this far it is a good sign. Keep syringing as before and offering her favourite foods as you are. My thoughts are with you as our piggies have the same illness, let me know how she is getting on.

Thank you for replying so quickly. Best of luck with yours - let me know how you get on too.

It definately sounds like things are on the up - my fingers are crossed that things continue in this way!

Sounds like the antibiotic is working! Finish the course and keep tempting her with food and keep her warm :)

Very sad news, my poor piggy didn't make it. Having looked so much better yesterday she suddenly went downhill and we lost her last night. Lots of tears in this house today.

Oh no, that's terrible, so sorry to hear that:(

Thank you for kind words. It was pretty heartbreaking, especially after a week of full-on care (I'd even been getting up in the night to feed her). She was my son's first-ever piggy which made it even sadder. We only had the two so now I'm scouring the rescues looking for a friend for the remaining one - she's tucked in with a teddy bear for now!

Yeah you have been working as hard as you could, there wasn't anymore you could of done. You gave her the best chance but in the end she wasn't strong enough to fight it off, was such a shock after she made an improvement. I'm sure you'll find the perfect little friend for your other one soon:)

so sorry to hear your guinea pig did not make it through my thoughts aer with you and your remaining guinea pig. Teddy bears are great things until new friends arrive :) Good luck in your search
