I am angry.

I went to the pet shop for some hay and I asked if they had any guineas upstairs I could look at. She said they only had "breeding guineas". I went up to see them. The male was very unusual: very short velvetty coat, white and pale grey in a sort of harlequin pattern with one white ear and one black! The female was long furred very very dark brown.

They were in a blocked off bit of the aviary, yes aviary. One budgie thing (not good on birds) had got in there too.

The guineas were huddled together looking miserable and brrr-ing. They didn't have any shelter.

I wanted to take them away and love them.

I'm so glad I rescued Rocky from that place. And that I know Rocky's two brothers found homes.

Lucinda, contact your local environmental health via your town hall/civic centre, explain your concerns and ask them to take a look. They license pet shops and if unhappy can revoke that license.
The RSPCA while unlikely to be able to confiscate the guinea pigs, will be able to speak to the owner about the guineas care.

Good luck,
Barbara

Poor piggies - I always think that any animal being used as 'breeders' for pet shops must have an utterly miserable life.

All the very poorly pigs at Thistle Cavies have come from a pet shop supply place too.

So very sad.
