Hi folks! My piggies have mites, something I have dealt with before but some years ago and I am now using fleece liners and fleece pouches.

What I've done before is remove all the wooden things from the cages for 4 weeks and use cage safe insecticide to get into all the nooks and crannies of the cages, and give them fresh plastic tunnels. Now though, I am using fleece and have the guinea pigs out for cuddles on the sofa and our bed.

My questions are:

Will washing the fleece liners and pouches (always at 60 degrees), kill the mites? Or do I need to go back to wood shavings for 4 weeks?

What do I do about the sofa and our duvet? Do we just not get them out for cuddles as much as usual?

Many thanks,

Jen

Just washing the bedding and items will be sufficient.
We recommend doing it a day or two after a treatment (returning to your normal cleaning routine between treatments). Mites cannot live without their host so won’t survive elsewhere in your house or on their bedding.

We recommend F10 vet grade disinfectant.
We also recommend replacing your hay

Thank you, that does make things easier.

Ok so mange mites. They are the more serious of the two types.

Are they getting a good prescription grade ivermectin treatment course?
