poor jerry... AGAIN!
i posted earlier or yesterday cant remember about bathing my piggies as jerry's fur was begining to stain yellow, i put this down tothe fact that he lost the use of his back legs for a few days, so was clearly urinating on himself and i was having to pick his poos off by hand, well his legs are better now and i though after you adviced not to bath him, that i would just clean round th eyellow area with luke warm water and a cotton bud just to clean him up a bit after being off his legs, n iv noticed scabby bits, just like white flakes around his man bits, iv rubbed them with cotton bud gentley and they show no signs of moving, but also he has alot less fur round this areea than the other piggy, baring in mind he is **** under treatment for mites and he does have hair loss on various parts of his body and similer white scabs due to the mites, is this area also affected by the mites or is it something to do with the fact he has urinated on himself. pls help!

iv tried to take a picture but its just to smaller area it just comes out blury, I'm just concered if its burnt from the urine or something but it just looks bit scabby, much better since iv cleaned it with a bud but **** a bit iffy! there are about 5 tiny scabs just after his bottom with the hair missing, obviously they hair the hair mising over their actual boy parts but this is just behind

thats like what he has around his man bits yes, omg as if he may have ring worm too, can this called baldness, I'm now thinkin does he have mites at all, as another picture i saw of ring worm is like what he has on his body. have the vets mis diagnosed him or does he have both... i really cant believe this, the woman i had him off needs stopping :(

i actually cant stop itching, i kinda got used to the though of him having mites under his skin... n i couldnt catch that from him, but ring worm is highly contagious isnt it, what do i do ith him :( shall i take him vets again iv had him nt even 2 weeks and been vets like 4 times already with him lol

Firstly, don't panic, you are doing the right thing by keeping an eye on him.

Secondly it is possible for them to have mites and ringworm as they are totally different things, one is bugs one is fungal, so your vet may have got everything right so far and this is just a new development.

Having said that, I had a vet misdiagnose Whiskey with mites for 2 months when in fact she had a hormone problem...it does seem to be a vet's favourite thing when they aren't sure what the problem is. Is your vet used to guineas?

Edited to ad - yes it is pretty contagious but it isn't bubonic plague, if you do pick it up from him it can be treated with Canestan cream don't worry. do try and be careful with handwashing, wearing the same clothes to sort the guineas out and changing afterwards etc.

o its mega creaped me out, his bk end hsa been like it since ihad himbut its just gettin worse i just put it down to mites, i really dont fancy ringworm...lol. i cant believe people who so called breed these animals let them get this way , do you thik he can wait until another week to go vets as he has an appointment book for his mites, or does he need to go inbetween?
I'm just uploading pics of him, wel as best as i can get, mycameras poo! but atleast you lot can see what i mean, i just olooked up about it all it looks like were his greese gland is, it says this can scab, could it be that?

I would personally take him sooner than a week as ringworm can spread quite quickly I think, and as you say it can be contagious. My cat likes to sniff the guineas and is rather grumpy he isn't allowed to at the moment!

I'm not too sure about the grease gland thing, sorry :-S

heres some pics, the first 1s are a view from behind with him on my hand, the other is him lying in my hand so its the other way round n the last is the ptch on his side, healso has blk crusty scabs in the corner of 1 eye, and little scabs behind his ears.

It really is tough going for you at the moment, I am sorry so much seems to be happening!

I would treat for both mites and fungal to be sure, piggies can have both at the same time. Is he the 6 week old? If so, treatment would be slightly different to that of an adult guinea pig.

Are you giving a Vit C supplement at all? It is something I would be giving until he's in better condition, given his medical history already.
