Hi everyone.. I’ve noticed this V shape appear on one guinea pig and as of yet it’s not spread to cage mates I didn’t think anything of it until I googled it earlier, I’ve learned there is mange mites and static mites but I’m not sure what this is or what to buy to treat it?
could anyone maybe send me some links to something I can buy (UK) or should I see a vet? Google has said it is treatable at home

you should never use over the counter medications for two reasons - you don’t know what problem you are treating as you cannot correctly diagnose, therefore you run the risk of giving your piggy the wrong thing. And over the counter medications are not prescription strength so often don’t work properly. Please always have your piggy seen by a vet for any health concern.

You need to see a vet for a proper diagnosis and treatment. Don't buy stuff from pet shops and home treat it isn't strong enough and it will cost you more and your piggy will have the problem for longer.
Thanks I’m making an appointment tomorrow just wanted an opinion as it might not be mites , no other cage mates are affected

I agree about seeing a vet for proper diagnosis and treatment, so good to hear you are making an appointment. If it is mites it may well be specific to one piggy and not pass to others. In my experience if there has been a change, or a stress for the piggies (change in environment, new addition, loss of a cage mate, change in dominance etc) then one piggy may be affected by mites without any cage mates being affected. Sometimes it is because a pig is hiding an illness. Definitely getting the vet to check general health as well to see what might have sparked it off. Good luck at the vets.

Thank you she has an appointment on Wednesday but I’ve to take all 3 in to make sure they are okay as well, I don’t think anything has changed but I definitely see some dominance changes so it may be that

I didn’t know over the counter ones weren’t strong enough, thank you for the advice

Hi everyone :) the guinea pigs got treatment 1 week ago and they definitely seem less irritated unfortunately where I live the only vet available for guinea pigs is pets at home, they were charging £35 consultation £7 treatment which needed done 3 times they wouldn’t allow me to treat myself so it was going to cost £35 3 times plus 7 and times that by 3 for all 3 pets it was just becoming too expensive.. I treated with beapher mite treatment as I just did not have the money and it has worked wonderfully - thanks for the help everyone
