Hello, my two guinea pigs have been scratching a lot recently (every 30 min) and turn their heads to try to bite their backs. I’m sure this is mites and I have been looking into treatment. I want to get ivermectin to treat them. I am in Canada and all I can find online is the ivermectin paste. Are there any Canadians on here that know where I can get pour on ivermectin? Also, if I buy the paste how do I dilute it? Thank you so much!

I would suggest a trip to the vets so they can make a proper diagnosis... if you treat at home with the wrong thing it will make it harder ..

My pigs currently are being treated for mites, diagnosed by the vet and they have had Xeno 450

Thanks for your reply, could tell me about how much the vet bills were?
Our very costs will probably vary due to you being in Canada.. I had to pay £30 to see the vet and the medication was about £8 - this was per pig and I have 3...

You will definitely need a vet to check and confirm what it is. Please don’t home treat them yourself without a diagnosis.
Vets fees will vary so it is not possible for us to say with any certainty but you could check with them when you make the appointment.
Having a vet fund saved up is a good idea as these things never occur at a convenient time!

Ok thanks, I have decided to bring them to the vet. Should I just bring one guinea pig or both of them? Would it be better if I just brought one piggy and treated them both with whatever the vet gives? Also, the vet charges around $100 for checkup per pig and then more depending on how much the medicine costs. Is this normal pricing? I find it to be quite expensive.

Take them both. You shouldn’t separated bonded piggies. They tend to deal with things better when they have their friends with them. Treat according to your vet’s instructions. It would also be a good idea to thoroughly clean down your cages

I know that in Canada vet care can be more expensive. Afraid being in the Uk, I can’t tell you what is normal pricing.
It is always a good idea to save up regularly into an account set aside as a vet fund. Piggies can be expensive!

Best to take them both as advised... they will feel safer when together... That is quite pricey but hopefully after the visit they will get the treatment and then be ok.... Vet funds are essential when you have Guinea pigs !

For anyone currently looking in Canada
I had to buy some for my little guinea and most have super expensive shipping but here are some.

Ivermectin Liquid Bottle Liquid - 50ml
This one has a video attached online Sasha Los Anglos on youtube about how to use it (INCLUDING HORSE PASTE)
However shipping is slightly more expensive for me than option 2 but cheaper shipping than any other website. ( Around $20-25 ish shipping)
BIMECTIN INJECTABLE.50 ML
I haven’t gotten this yet and I don’t know how well it works (I can update if needed) but wayyy cheaper shipping (around $13 ish shipping for me)
