one of my rescue pigs is pregnant and the vet has said cant be treated any idea what i can do for her? she has no skin problem but is scratching......

Hey

hope the pigs get better soon! Just wondering what the signs of mites are and what the look like?

Thanks

ps. good luck with the pregnant piggie! :)

Mites are invisable to the naked human eye.The symptoms of infestation are: excessive scatching, often to the point of causing sores which scab over. The hair will be loose(like when they moult) but it will not come out in clumps. There may be some light "dandruff".,and possibly some bald patches. If a pig is seen to scratch a lot or dig at itself with the teeth, check the hair carefully. If the hair comes out in clumps and has white scurf on the roots, this is a fungal infection ,not mites.Fungus also makes the hair feel greasy. Mary

sometimes you can see tiny white wiggly things crawking about, its easier to see on a black or dark piggy...gross :-\
