mixing food

Wondered do Guinea Pigs need to be slowly introduced to new dry mix foods like rabbits,or can they chop and change willy nilly! My 3 are on waggs but they have started to select eat! so bought big bag of science selection for guinea pigs.The rabbits are also on science selection.Was told that that the rabbits can eat the guinea pigs because they "pee out the extra vitamin C" true or not do not know.Anyone have any ideas!

I believe that dry food should be introduced slowly, maybe over a week or two? If you start with mainly old food and a bit of new food, then gradually have less old food and more new food it should be fine. Was just thinking though, if they are selectively eating the Wagg food then aren't they going to keep picking those bits out instead of the new food? I'm not too sure, but I've always seen it advised that new food should be introduced slowly. Good luck O0

Thanks Jane. just like bunnies then, slow intro to grub!They eat the rabbits food already and spangle the hens food.

yeah i'd agree it can upset their stomachs if you put them straight onto something different, plus they might not eat it cos they don't know what it is, where as if it's mixed in with their other food for a couple of weeks, they will get accustomed to it! :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

I don't think guineas are as bad as rabbits are sensitive wise and a lot of mixes contain the same ingredients anyway. To be on the safe side and to get guinea used to the idea then a gradual change is better. When I changed to Cavy Cuisine one of my boars refused to change until there was nothing but CC to eat in the way of dried food- who says they can't be selective with pellets :
