Ive just been into Morrisons and they have some great deals on fruit and veg..

Whole Cabbage 30p
1kg Carrots 30p
Celery 50p
1.5kg Potatoes 30p
Bag of Satsumas 30p

I brought 2 celery, 3 cabbages and 4 bags of carrots for my pigs. he he
 
i have found, if you ask at the end of markets (farmers markets especially) if they have any 'left over bits for animals' you can get bags full of broken veg, veg leaves etc for nothing!
i go everyweek now to a certain stallholder in town and they kkep me all the bits they cant sell, like bits that have fallen off veg(leaves, stalks, tops off carrots etc) and broken veg (bruised cucumbers, snapped carrots, beans etc) all are 100% still perfect to eat, yet they cant sell them ass they dont look good enough!

sure helps feed my piggys :)

That is a fantastic idea! I'm going to try that!
 
do you not have a market in town? most towns have one? failing that ask at the supermarket (any that have a 'weigh your own fruit/veg' section is bound to have damaged/broken veggy bits :)
 
i asked at my local coop but they cant let me have anything as its health and safety and i could sue them if i ate something and got ill they were throwing out cucumbers the other day as they were past there recommended sell by date they were just heading for the bin such a waste
 
Shame, some places are funny about that! Farmers market I think would give you some odd pieces?! ?/ I'm going to try on Saturday, the wee fruit and Veg shop I used to go to would have but it's too out the way now 8...!
 
That's good bargains in morrisons. I also find if you go to the supermarkets late at night they reduce all there veg bu 80%. Ive picked up some nice cheap veg for the piggy's quite a few times.
I'm a little shy to ask the local veg stall to give me animal feed bits,I will just have to pick up the courage and ask! I wouldnt know what to say if they said 'no'. :(
 
Thats a good response. Bet they will be shocked by that one! Haha. They are pretty good so I suppose it wouldnt hurt me to ask.
 
Good point I always but fruit off him and love the strawberries that he sells in the summer. He always knew I wanted strawberries! :)
