I have recently moved home to my first house with a garden, I was getting really excited about getting a run for the pigs however on closer inspection my lovely green garden seems to have quite a bit of moss under the grass mallethead Is this harmful? There are some patches without any but I dont want to risk them eating anything they shouldn't rolleyes

I dont *think* it is harmful, I hope not as my grass seems to have moss under it too, and my piggies were out there today!

On closer inspection of them eating, they seemed to turn their nose up at the moss and ate only the grass.

You can rake the grass to get rid of the moss, it is quite time consuming though! I did it today and made quite a pile!

I am sure moss would not harm them. Ours have moss under their grass and they eat the grass and leave the moss. As guinea pigs mature, they seem to have an idea bout what they can and cannot eat.

Thanks :) Ill try and keep the run of the mossiest bits, I'm sure like you said they wouldn't eat it if it was bad (unless we are talking about carrier bag!)

Guinea pigs are really very clever. When they pull out bits if grass, they chew up to the roots and then stop.:)

My garden is insanely mossy too, luckily it's only the far end of the garden and the closest part is lovey, green grass.

I'm going to try and get my lot out today provided the weather holds!
