Today we begin phase 1 of 'Operation Winter'. I'm going to move the girls' hutch from the lawn to just outside my door. They will then have shelter from the house on 2 sides and a 10 ft high wall on the other but still facing south to catch any rays. It'll save me getting soaked when going to feed them etc. I'm also going to add a couple of layers of bubble wrap under their waterproof hutch cover for some extra insulation.

Phase 2 will commence in winter proper when they move indoors to a large pen I'm converting for them.

Glad it looks like a decent day with sunshine so they can go in their run while I move everything.

Phase 1 of phase 1 (phase 1.1?) is complete. Found a brilliant wooden 'platform up in dad's veg garden, cut tosize, packe the underneath with fibreglass insulation, covered with plastic and wire, turn over and hey presto! An insulated floor for my hutch! (it has an under run, open to the grass, but not really necessary or practical when standing on stone flags).

Just making a bacon butty and then on with phase 1.2 - moving the hutch.

Phase 1.2 complete.

Hutch deep cleaned and running repairs done (crappy plywood back, grrrr). 2 layers of bubble wrap (which funnily has fragile and handle with care printed all over it. Apt, I thought!) applied to back and sides of upper hutch. Hutch positioned on its plinth and kitted out with fresh bedding, hay etc. Pigglies put back in and enjoying exploring again.

1 extra bonus, the hutch is now about 8" higher from ground level so easier to see in and clean etc.

Go me! -c
