Me and my bf have found a house to rent which will accept guinea pigs. The landlady is putting a new shed in so they will have a nice cosy place to sleep. The only thing is that there is no grass, only a plant border and a slabbed area. Its big enough for the guinea pigs to exercise in.

I'm planning on giving them fresh veg and ready grass. I will also pick grass for them when i can. Do you think this is ok?

Well done on finding a house for your piggies (and you of course) :)) What a nice landlady to be putting in a shed for them as well!

You could always buy a pot and grow some grass from seed in it? Id be carefull about picking grass from elsewhere, you never know whats been on it (chemicals, animal waste etc)

Congratulations on your new house together x

Thank you!

That's ok then. I wouldn't pick grass from anywhere that i wasn't sure of. My mum and dad will have plenty of grass now that the 6 piggies aren't mowing the lawn so i can pick some when i visit lol.

We were in the middle of having our garden turned into a maintainance free garden when we decided to get piggies, so we now have no grass. I am going to get one of those large garden trough type plant pots and grow grass in that :) Or if I'm rubbish at growing veggies, I might put grass in the raised bed and put a fence round it and that will be their run!

:)p

Congratulations on your new home, it is good to hear how accommodating your new landlady is!

My pigs are some of those who very, very rarely get access to grass. They'll be allowed out in the run on the grass around twice a year, and they'll have grass picked for them no more than three or four times a year. They have a perfectly varied diet without grass; they do enjoy grass, but they don't miss it!

We only have a paved yard in a rented house too. My other half bought a couple of paint roller trays and grew grass in these :) The piggies love it! Sometimes when it's long we'll trim it and fill a bowl for them, or if they're out in the run we'll just put the whole tray in and let them sit on it and eat it :) It didn't cost much at all and the boys seem to appreciate it.

We had no grass in our last rental and just grew it in some flat trays for them. I'm hopeless where plants are concerned but it was really easy to grow.
