Well the lovely MrH was neutered yesterday & bless him he doesn't know me at all but a chin tickle sure does perk him up :smitten:

I have had to give him a bottom bath 3x today becasue he seems to get wee right up both back legs up to the thigh. xx0 On round 2 I was concious on him getting ill if he wasn't dry properly so he got super star treatment & I put him outside because it was soo nice. He was in a run on the grass but I covered the majority of the grass with towels just leaving little snippets of grass to eat. I didn't want his rear end getting any germs from the grass. He seemed to love it - he seemed to be turning round to get his bum in the sun too :smitten: Is that spoiling him?!

Has anyone else had this problem where they just seem to sit in wee after the op? It does look like he had just laid in a puddle. I'm concerned the vet bed isn't soaking up as much as it should. I feel that it is necessary to dunk his bum in a bowl of water because I don't want him to get any kind of urine scald or infection in the wounds.

Hx

ps just to add Emily has fallen in love with him - she noticed him while I was carrying him to the kitchen & she was forcing her nose through the grids to cop a look! talk about love at first sight! MrH's head nearly did a full 360 when he noticed her too - aw aint those kids just too cute :-*

:) I had 2 boys done yesterday too (rescues). You'd never know they'd had an OP if it wasn't for the bald patch ::) I put some Vetbed in but they've chosen not to sleep on it and prefer hay instead ::) ! They also went out on the grass and were popcorning and enjoying themselves. I don't get mine wet after the op, they have a bath pre op then I just leave them. But the stitching is internal and they are glued, its very small and neat.

Up to you, but I would leave his wound alone and let it heal, just do as you are and keep him ultra clean without actually cleaning the site. I had to leave my boys Fiddlestix out because they love to climb on top of it and watch the girlies- visions of a torn wound :P

I haven't touched the wound at all just massaged the outside of the leg - & like yours he's been glued too. Its just that both back legs were sodden. Litterally if you stroked his leg you could get small drops of wee off him. I would usually leave it well alone but I think it would cause more harm than good :-\ Do they lose a bit of control after the op? or maybe he doesn't want to get up to wee becasue it hurts too much....who knows. I didn't want to put any igloo or fiddle sticks for the same reasons! A sheet over the run for shade was all he had!

Glad to hear your boys are doing ok too & not bathing in pee!

:) Then I'd have wiped him too. Mine are both heavily shaved inbetween their legs and little bare arcs of backsides if you see what I mean :/ Never had any probs with them losing control after the op but maybe they do? All I've ever had was post op abscesses with one of my own boars. My Bun's making more fuss than the guineas are, they got over it when they came home, he's still sulking and runs away from me ::)

Do you use fabric softner when you wash the vet bed? If so just use powder conditioner builds up and wee water runs off it ;) same with towels ;) makes them less absorbant trust this nappy lady ;D

well what I would do is use whatever bedding (woodshavings, megazorb, etc) and then towels on top rather than vetbed..
the towels keep the wound clean and you can monitor any oozing that might happen or any blood, using light coloured towels rather than bright colourful ones of course.

the bedding underneath it soaks up the urine better than just the towels.

might that be an alternative until you have figured out whats wrong with the vetbed?

MMmmm I cant remember if I did use fab conditioner or not Michelle - good idea O0
Ulrike the vet bed is white for that purpose I will be scrificing some white towels in a bit though!
He isn't as pee stained this morning which is a good sign. He seems well enough though. He marched out of his pink igloo & grabbed some celery tops. Maybe he needs a more masculine colour house!

Karen - yes he has has the full brazilian which goes way above his belly button >:D How soon are your boys going back on their usual bedding?

Mine are back on their usual bed with a square of vetbed in case they feel its a better option, but they are always on the hay. Charlie is the same and has totally rejected his Vet Bed. This is how I always bed my post castrates now and they all opt for sleeping in the hay. I still haven't returned any houses to the cage though because these boys are big on climbing. Monty was popcorning bigtime out there yesterday, you just wouldn't think he'd had a major op ::)

By the way, their usual bedding is newspaper topped with Medibed and a big pile of Meadow hay to play in. Its the hay that they're choosing to sit in!

Awww, bless him Hils, glad he isn't in such a mesh today. :smitten:
