My one year old guinea pig has been put on baytril for a uti last week. She has always had loud stomach sounds and gets quite a belly after eating. Recently we have noticed it a lot more, it sounds like belly gurgling. I hadn't noticed anything else abnormal but tonight she seemed quieter than usual. When she stayed out longer than the other piggie I noticed she was eating a lot of her poo's, I caught a glimpse of what she was eating and it was like a mucous with soft poos in. Its evening her e so wont be able to get her to the vets til tomorrow. I've taken out the veg and left hay and pellets in. Any ideas what this might be and what I can do about it! Thank you

Did you know guinea pigs do eat their poohs? They eat a special kind which is softer then the other ones. Are you sure she is not eating those?

Yes, These are mostly mucous and differ from the normal soft poos guinea pigs re-eat.

Ah I see. Well hopefully somebody will be able to advise you. Is she having a probiotic as baytril can cause funny tummy's.

No she's not. What could I give as a probiotic? She's just quieter and more clingy for cuddles than usual she is normally the bold one. Sleepless night ahead...

You can either mush up fresh poos or buy probiotics.Pets at home sell it or the vets will sell it .Good luck with it

How is she today? I give fibreplex which you can buy from Amazon.

Hi took her to the vets that morning and she was perky as anything and the poo's had stopped! She has been fine since!
