My piggy eats non stop on the syringe after three ops on the teeth. Eats no hay struggles with celery. No carrot now. Likes banana as its soft. Why does he crave for tons of syringe food. I notice he was a bit trembling now and then. He drinks no water. Maybe he be OK tommorow. Everyday is different. He follows me everywhere for syringe food like a baby I can't handle it anymore. 😭

Give 1 syringe of water after every 2 or 3 syringes full of feed. Maybe ease back on the syringe feeding a bit to make him want to eat for himself. Try popping some pellets in a dish and adding some luke warm water and when it's cool put it in the cage to see if he will eat it. If he is full from your syringe feeding he will have no desire to eat for himself.

Very pleased he is eating for himself now. You will still have to top up with syringe feeding for a few days but slowly withdraw the syringe feeding. The morning I came downstairs and saw Christian tucking into his hay I was so relieved! When your Piggy is eating hay again you know he is feeling better. Eating pellets is the first step.

Blodwen pig kept us awake all night crunching pellets very loudly, and also eating a very noisy carrot! Then hay nom nom nom nom nom. We're down to syringe feeding 5mls twice a day but honestly there's no need in her case now except for her enjoying it and bonding with her hoomans, soon as we get the all clear on the ringworm she's going in the piggy room and just being fed hard foods like a big healthy pig :)

Should have an all clear by weekend hopefully! We're back at the vet Thursday with Jezebel's floofy pant fur infection but the baytril seems to be clearing it up beautifully, no flakes or scabs any more- I'll be sure to ask about Blod's ringworm test then but as I understand it, the longer the test results take the better because it means no ringworm spores have grown in the culture from the skin scrape yet :)

He's off pellets soft now lol. Back on syringe and eats banana as its soft. He never liked banana before. He never likes hay only a wee bit. I will see how tonight goes later on. Thanks again

Does he need a second vet opinion or another procedure on his teeth? Blodwen was eating solid food within 24 hours of her dental surgery (hay and pellets and harder veg in small amounts) and a week after the vet checked her teeth (as well as she could after Bloddy demolished a broccolli stalk) and said she was fine. And she is, crunch crunch pellets nom nom hay crunch crunch carrot all night long, we're not quite 2 weeks post dental op and she's eating normally. Her teeth were quite bad by all accounts, 3 seriously overgrown molars with spurs hurting her on one side and the other side starting to overgrow as her jaw was misaligned... so 6 back teeth done and recovery was really fast.
Maybe a dental expert can advise how fast recovery from dental work typically is? Seems like you've been syringe feeding quite a while with no progress...

He's had 3 ops on his teeth. I think their daft vets. Story tellers. They grinded his back teeth right down and couldn't get to this back tooth as it was difficult to get to. Or it was just a bit of jaw bone. He goes mad on syringe now grips it with his teeth as if he's starving.. Maybe gave him 30 syringes in one go. I thought a few was OK but it's the whole bowl he eats and tips the bowl up with panic.

You have been very dedicated to you sons little piggie, helping him recover through all those dentals. I think your poor piggie needs to see a dental competent vet. Is there any exotic vets around your area, it may mean travelling a little further afield but would be really worth it in the long term to get him sorted out. Have to read the guides at the top of the page for syringe feeding, this will tell you how much he should be having in one day. It really helped me when my Ted suffered from dental surgery which was done incorrectly, it was a godsend. I now travel 370 miles for Ted to have conscious dentals.Ted eats hay perfectly within 10 minutes of having it done.

Think there's one not far from here. East Kilbride. There's a vet round the corner but I don't know if he's a guinea pig dentist
