My 8 year old guinea pig just died

My beloved Guinea Pig named Arturo died in his sleep last night. I had just cleaned his living area that morning and noticed he did not poop all day long but other than that was acting completely normal. He was running around visiting his fellow pigs and running up to me to be picked up. He was eating and drinking like normal. I am trying to cope with his death as I loved him very much. He was 8 years old, I am just wondering if him not pooping was a sign of his organs shutting down due to age? I am happy that he did not suffer and seemed happy and normal until I found him when I woke up in the morning and he had passed in the night.

I’m so sorry you have lost Arturo. He was obviously very well looked after and loved to reach 8 years old.

If there were no poops then he had stopped eating for a day or two. Piggies hide their illnesses so well so there was probably no signs for you to see. It sounds like he had a very peaceful passing.

So sorry for your loss. Eight is a very old for a guinea pig. You must have given him the best of care for him to reach this age. It is very sad to lose your gorgeous boy but he passed peacefully, surrounded by his friends which is what we would all like for our piggies.
