Had to split up Tommy and Basil, they were fighting yesterday and Tommy caught Basil's foot and there was blood. Luckily it was just part of Basil's nail and he is ok. Took me ages to calm Basil down as he was really aggitated and wound up but he's back to his normal self now. And it's strange cos he seems really happy on his own.

I haven't a clue what happened, they have been getting on so well and hated being apart from each other for a few seconds. They just suddenly turned on each other for no apparent reason.

So i've got Tommy in a makeshift cage for now and have to decide what to do. I think Basil will be fine on his own, he's been wheeking for his veg and popcorning round his cage. Tommy, however, is very quiet and seems to miss company. So what do I do? The lady from the rescue is coming to see me at the weekend with a pair of boars that are older and been together for a long time so I won't have any problems with them. But I don't think I can part with Basil, so could I keep him on his own if I got another cage?

Hiya I am not an expert so I'm not sure if my advice is the right advise but it worked for me.

I have 3 boys that I rescued, George, Dobbie and Kreature, about 2 weeks after we had them George gave me an awful scare and kept chasing and attacking Kreature, there cage is on the floor of there corner so I shut George in alone and arranged to get a second cage convinced I would need to seperate them, but you know what since that time out I have had no problems at all so could you maybe give them one more chance and see if a time out helps? Like I say though I'm not an expert these are my first experiance of piggies (except for when I was very small) so I'm learning myself x

Hey guys..

Hey guys sorry for butting in on the conversation but i'm new to this and son't really know how it works as yet! Anyway i'm looking for help/advice with my little guinea pig she is 3.5month old (Mia) and has been full of life and energetic up until last week when she seems to have taken a bad turn. Her balance was off which was the first thing i noticed i usually have her beside me when I'm lying on bed watching some tv and she usually sleeps away quite the thing or explores but recently she has been moving around a lot as i would if uncomfortable/having a restless sleep, then when in her cage she would curl up in the corner of her cage n not eat...I took her to the vet on monday first thing and the vet semed to think she was fine just maybe a cold n gave her a jag but on wednesday same scenario only her hair looks dry and like its shedding so back to the vets and igot a different girl at the vets this time and she seemed to think she was haing problems with her bowel movement and gave me a course of supplimented food (green pulp basically) but she doesn't take to well to it! I have also tried baby food through a syringe and also water through the syringe.Has anyone got any tips/advice as to whats next or how to help please because its breaking my heart watching her suffer. I know its a big ask but information will be greatly appreciated

Kind Regards

James:)

Oh well, i'll have to ask the rescue lady when she comes on Saturday for advice on what to do.

I'm sorry I couldnt be more help xx

I have no idea how you would make a piggie take stuff they dont like, did the vet not give any tips? Maybe someone in the illness section could help hun ? xx

Oh well, i'll have to ask the rescue lady when she comes on Saturday for advice on what to do.

I think that she would be a good person to ask for advice. WHen I introduced my boar to my herd there was a fight and Treacle was bitten on the nose. After a lot of thought I decided to keep the herd altogether and let them get on with it. It was either that or returning George to the rescue which I did not want to do.

I think it is sometimes hard to accept that piggies have their fallouts. It is difficult to know where to draw the line between a small dispute between piggy friends and a full blown fallout, especially with out seeing the pigs together and the setup.

The lady from the rescue is coming at the weekend so going to ask her what she thinks. I've tried putting them back together to see, as advised by the rescue, and within seconds they were fighting. Luckily I had a towel handy so threw it over Tommy and yanked him out. It was scary, and they will not be going back together :(
