Hello

I've been using this forum as a reference for around a year now - never having actually owned a guinea pig, but very keen to have them in my life!
Well, I finally rescued this little madam - who i've named Lexie - from a breeder.

She is very timid, obviously hasn't been handled much at only 10 weeks old and she is reluctant to eat at the moment. I've been syringing a little mixture of critical care & water in to try and build her up because believe it or not under all the hair she is quite small :)

Anyway, I hope you all think she is adorable as I do - I just need to find her some chums now!

Aww she is beautiful, such a sweetie x)

Gorgeous! I hope she starts eating properly soon.

Also if you think about getting her a friend at some point I know SSPCA centre near Inverness has some girlies in at the moment rolleyes

AWWW - she is lovely!

Give her time to settle and find her a friend soon - that is the best thing you can do to make her happy. Often shy new guinea pigs will only come out at night when nobody is around at first. Best leave veg and hay very close to her hidey and it will be gone by the morning!

You can find more tips at the bottom of the reference section. Sorry, the forum is too slow to parse in the link at the moment.

Oh she looks VERY tiny for 10 weeks, I wonder if she's really younger? I agree about getting her a friend ASAP. The most shy of pigs really brighten up when they have a friend to keep them company. How is she doing with eating and drinking?

Tracy, I thought she might be a bit younger because she is tiny! But because I don't have the best knowledge of them - sizewise, i wasn't quite sure. Maybe i should weigh her? And then you guys could advise me .

The breeder who I rescued her from was feeding them on a pellet only diet. She wouldn't tell me what brand she used, so I bought Excel , which she seems happy with. She is very wary of veg & doesn't appear to be eating a lot of the meadow hay I bought her, i might try some timothy hay instead?
I've put the food right next to her hidey-hole and everyone is absolutely right, she sneaks out at night and eats it. At the moment she just hides a lot.

TwoPiggies - thanks for the sspca recommendation, i might go along this weekend and have a look! Somebody also mentioned that PAH have an adoption section for animals that have been given to them, which they cant sell but rehome for charity donations! Might try there also!

OMG, I think I actually screamed when I saw her :)) She is soooo cute x) and very tiny. I have a piggy called Lexi too :)
Aaawwww, she is so adorable...jealous {:|

P.S. just thought I'd mention, when I got my little one a couple of months ago he didn't seem to know what hay and veggies were as he'd not been fed them before, but he wolfs them down now, so I wouldn't worry too much :)
