Hi guys (and gals!),
Well, I've worked in a petstore for ages, and have closely gotten to know 101 different types of animals (well... maybe not that much! :p). I finally decided on Guinea pigs as my pets, because I love how you can hold them like a cat, snuggle like a dog, but they don't need to be walked in the rain or entertained endlessly! Also, I'm a vegetarian with a household full of carnivores, so it would be nice to get a few veggies in!
Well, anyway, even though I work in a petstore, I am very pro breeders and rescues and decided that I wanted to get my piggies from someone who cared, not just someone who wanted money.
Well, I guess I fell off the wagon there. I ended up with two beautiful piggies from a small, local pet-store. I don't know, I guess I just fell for them. They chose me... there was no way around it
They were very skittish, but young, beautiful, healthy, and sweet. I figured that they would turn out to be excellent piggies. So, I put a hold on them for a week and went and bought my stuff.
I just brought them home four days ago! They are AMAZING. At first they were so skittish and wouldn't eat, drink, poop or pee, and I even though I had seen this a million times in the petstore I was still REALLY worried.
But they soon, overnight, completely calmed down, and now they are amazing! It's still hard for me to get them out of the cage... I have to chase them around, but once I've got them securely out they are so easy to handle.
They will just lie in your arms forever, and one of them actually started purring! x)
By the way, there names are Miika and Luna. They are both so distinct! Luna is a black-and white (dutch? dalmation) long-haired (peruvian or silkie, not sure yet). She is large, confident, calm, sweet and the alpha. She is incredibly easy to hold, very lovely, and a great 'family piggie'.
Her sister, Miika, is a crazy little girl! She is TINY compared to her sister! She's a tortishell and white (calico) coronet, very small, shy, the runt, but acrobatic, fast, and very, very naughty! She's a wild child!
Luna is almost completely tamed, but I know I have my hands full with Miika... well, I'll try and get pics up as soon as I figure out how to actually post them!
